Any recommendations? There is a place called Misty Brae Farm in Aldie and they have a riding summer camp. Has anyone sent their kids there?
Where else are there riding camps?

    Re: Horseback Riding Camps?

    Sunny and others--

Here are web site links for equestrian/horseback camps nationwide. There are 4 great camps listed in Fairfax/Loudoun Counties. We have our own horses on our farm; but I have heard that Misty Brae in Chantilly, VA is good--never used it personally though.

    Good luck--:)

Twin Oaks Riding Academy across Rt 50. Girl child went there for 2 years of year round lessons and helped out at the summer camps.

I signed my daughter up for horseriding camp through the Loudoun County Parks and Rec. The activity is number 408200, if you have access to the webtrac you can sign up on line. The camp was wonderful last year and my daughter really wanted to go back ASAP. It is expensive though, $300 per week.

My daughter did the horseback riding camp and Misty Brae last summer. She and I were less than thrilled with it. If you want your child to be supervised by 12 and 13 year old girls almost exclusively, made to sit and wait in a filthy, crowded attic above the barn watching horse show videos so you can then ride for a total of 30 minutes in the course of a 3 hour camp, then Misty Brae is the camp for you.

:conf2: We have been to many riding camps in the Northern VA Area. Misty Brae Farm is the best. The owners and trainers evaluate each rider and place them in a group that works best for them. As your child improves they move them to a more advanced group - not holding them back at all - encouraging them to grow.

They have wonderful summer & holiday camps. These camps not only have riding lessons but cover all aspects of owning a horse. They learn how to care for the horse first hand and by watching movies regarding jumping. My daughter learned more in one week than in all of the previous camps combined.

The kids have a blast and the parents are wonderful and support the owners and staff because our kids are so happy. Not to mention Misty Brae is a certified Pony Club Center. This is a wonderful, healthy environment for kids to pursue their love of horses. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this Farm and Camp to EVERYONE!!

My Child is hooked and would be devestated to ride anywhere else. She rides every Sunday! So excited that all of her homework is done before she leaves!!!

Last thing - we participated in Homecoming parades this fall - the kids had a blast and so did the crowds. Not many Farms would take the time and effort to make this happen for your kids.
