agreed, the trails are really bad, and the sidewalks are fairly bad. it's especially difficult with an arthritic dog. the biggest issue it seems with the sidewalks though is the re-freezing.

I shoveled our driveway and used our snow thrower (the previous homeowners left it for us!) to do the sidewalks around our house - we live on a corner lot, too - and I did the sidewalk throughout our entire cul-de-sac. It isn't as though I'm opposed to helping, but on the main street through our neighborhood only about 10% of the people shoveled their sidewalk. If it were only a few people, that would be one thing, but when it's practically everyone it gets really annoying. And like someone else posted, I know for a fact that at least one of the houses has a teenage boy who is capable of doing the shoveling. But he would rather just play outside with his friends, smoking and getting busted by the cops.

Edited to say that I apologize for sounding so crabby but I only just starting drinking my morning coffee

I wish more of the kids in the neighbourhood were like that.

When I was a punk I used to love snowy days. Snow meant $$$

I am late in joining this topic, but I have always been burned up by sidewalks that don't get shoveled. I was a little less so this last go around with the ice, only because I know how hard it was to get up. But there is one house, at the end of Vestals Gap right before Claiborne Pkwy, that NEVER shovels the sidewalk in front of their house very timely. This part of the sidewalk is used very much because of folks walking to the path, kids going to school, etc. We've lived here since 2003, and it has been this way since then. I'm also pretty sure there are teenagers in the house, so it's not a situation of an elderly couple or a single parent who just can't get it done. I've gone as far as write down their house number, but I've never called anyone or done anything about it, so I guess I'm as much to blame as they are. :)

Please post their contact info for the next storm! My husband blew out his back this last go around and i just physically could not remove the ice - despite throwing ice melt on it and scraping an iron shovel down on the ice. It just kept coming back - like 'ice flow'!!

After that last adventure, we will gladly pay some yung'uns to help us out!!!

If anyone else has enterprising youth, have them post a "work wanted" up on the forums! Seems like there is work to be had!

While I think that's a great idea, I urge people to keep in mind we have strict guidelines/rules on our forums in regards to minors and posting contact information. Specifically, no email address, home address or telephone numbers should be posted. Feel free to use the PM feature of the forums, but minors should be cautious of any request and we would suggest an adult act as an intermediary.

The Tech Committee isn't out to stifle our youth, we're just trying to protect them and to protect our userbase. Hopefully, everyone understands this.

As a side note, I personally think we're done with snow this season. The weathermen have tried to hype the minimal snow accumulations we did get and with March a week away, I'm calling this snow season over. I would love to be proven otherwise; I grew up way up north and LOVE snow!

Thanks! We will be sure to look them up!!

BTW to Mr. Linux - "contact" information to me meant how to contact folks looking to do some work in the community...not necessarily to post their detailed personal stuff directly on line. Good precautionary notes, though, and appreciated.

...And hundreds of teachers across LoCo are shaking their heads in disbelief, unable to comprehend the thought of leaving unused snow days on the calendar...[IMG]

Don't be so sure - I can't remember what year it was, but it was quite a few years ago, because my son was 10 or 11, he's now in his 20's, but we got a snowstorm on his birthday, March 14!

With regards to snow in March, most recently we got hit hard in 2003 and then 1999.

It was the 1999 snowstorm. SO - Beware the Ides of March! You never know what will happen, it can be a very fickle month.

Alright Linux... I'm blaming you for this one. Therefore it's your job to come shovel my driveway.
