Illegal right turns on Waxpool

This is going to be more of a rant and a hope that someone from law enforcement will start doing something about it. But I was curious if anyone else is completely annoyed and angry about the number of cars making illegal right turns from off Waxpool on to Waxpool in the mornings. If you have yet to witness it, these people blow by everyone waiting to make the turn and make an illegal right from the straight lane. It seems to be happening more and more frequently. This morning, the back up was rather bad and in the 10 minutes I was waiting, no less than 11 cars pulled this illegal maneuver

 

Which 'Waxpool onto Waxpool' intersection are you talking about? There are so many? I'm guessing it's the one by the ice rink.?

 

It is the same way on Loudoun County PKWY going right onto waxpool. They eventually made the second lane a turn lane but made it a no turn on red turn. Everyone ignores the no turn on red part in the mornings. Even cops. Lately I've even been seeing a lot of people utilizing the third lane as a turn lane. That's incredibly dangerous. Even with it backed up to near the first verizon entrance you will make it thru that light in under 10 minutes by staying in the far right lane. Some mornings I get thru it in under 5. These people are making it incredibly dangerous for a savings of maybe 2-5 minutes. Rediculous.

I've also seen it at the waxpool->waxpool turn near the ice rink.

 

COPS are not going to do anything about it. I have seen them watch the cars do it.

 

What drives me crazy is the people that make a left from Loudoun County Parkway onto Waxpool, and then make a u-turn by the hotel. I really can't believe that saves time.

 

wow I had not seen that one. People do it all the time to get onto loudoun county from waxpool in the afternoon (and now that the light's changed I don't think it saves any time anymore) but I had not seen them do that in the mornings. I just don't get it. I'm in no hurry to get to work in the mornings lol.

 

Lately - I've been getting home faster going straight down Waxpool instead of LCP to Shellhorn. That four way stop sign is getting a lot more traffic waiting. Any update of when that will be turned on???? This year???

 

that used to be MY move and it DOES save time- 4 minutes to be exact! not illegal, not in anyone's way...

NOW my move is to go left on LCP, get an excellent coffe and danish at Cafe Rumi, then get back into traffic and enjoy the ride...

I wrote to the county 2 years ago about that waxpool corner. they would need a 3rd lane to make two turning lanes possbile, like what happened at LCO and Waxpool.

 

The key to Waxpool is all in timing...if you're driving on it between 5-5:15, you'll make better time....it you're on it at 5:30...not good, traffic starts backing up.

 

I avoid that section all together. Not sure if it's faster but saves me from any 4 way stops.

1. continue down loudoun county pkwy past the toll road.
2. Turn Right onto Old Ryan Road
3. Turn Left onto Croson Ln
4. Turn Right onto Claiborne Pkwy

The other alternative if I wanna go to Harris Teeter is to continue on Old Ryan Rd down to Mooreview. May not save me any time but it's a much nicer drive then dealing with idiots at the 4 way stop.

 

Actually for some reason they changed Old Ryan Road to now be "Gleedsville Manor Drive" without telling anyone...although I still think it's called Old Ryan Road on the Home Depot end. I discovered this change when 1/2 of my guests for a friend's baby shower kept getting lost trying to get to my house!

 

Yea that right turn from LoCo Parkway to Waxpool in the morning is CRAZY. What has been happening a lot lately is that many cars go all the way toward the light in the left lane and then "jump" in front of someone as people move so they get in the closest turn lane... almost got tagged by one of these guys this morning but I tell you I will not move when that happens... I could use the insurance money.

And YES, waaay too many people are now turning right from the third "straight" lane. And this will only get worse as more people catch-on to this new "idea". That is how we got 2 turn lanes there.

I am just really saddened by the traffic conditions on Waxpool in general... really a shame. Hard to not feel this way if you lived here just 4 years ago, it was so different when I moved to Broadlands in 2002...

 

And I've lived in Ashburn since 1988, so you can imagine how I feel...Waxpool Road was a dusty two lane road.....people who helped us move seriously thought we were nuts moving to Ashburn.....talk about changes!!!

 

When I rode a bus to Broad Run HS, there might have been 5 houses in (Old) Ashburn.

Mookie - not sure if your cell has a camera feature - if so you could always take a pic and send it over to LCSO or fill out the traffic complaint form

I was leaving the Wegman's shopping center one night at rush hour (took me 20 minutes to get out of there!) and people were doing the same thing - driving to the light in the "go straight" lane vs. the right turn off and then turning right.

 

Oh yea - that's another bad spot...people just refuse to wait at the light coming from Wegmans and do that illegal right hand turn!!! It's an accident waiting to happen, IMO.
