who is we cliff? :) i know plenty of B'landers who speed thru our streets and drive inconcsiderately!

i hate using residential streets- too many kids have no concept of respecting the roadway and not darting out into the street, others are wearing their ipods while riding and weaving back and forth in the streets- I try to get on main roads as quickly as possible so i don't end up with a kid as a hood ornament.

I think you and Eggberta miss what I meant. What I am is saying is that if someone from Broadlands wants to go to a shopping center in or around Ashburn Farm, I don't think there are really any residential streets to "cut-through" on.
My post had nothing to do with how Broadlands people drive on Broadlands roads. As i had mentioned earlier, the Ridgeway problem existed before the Laurier cut-through existed, which means the problem WAS Broadlands residents.

People speed on Ridgeway, Stonehollow, and Highview (as well as many, many other streets) and there's no call to shut those streets down. We need to fix the behavior (or fine it) not close a street b/c some people speed. Speed bumps might be a good idea. I live in Broadlands and use Lauier often, as do a great # of other Broadlanders. Heading to the movies, dinners or shops over in Brambleton, I use the public road that is closest. Using the road isn't the problem, and I'd hate to see it closed just because some speed. And I've used residential streets in Ashburn Farm too... Personally, I like the easier access and would rather not react by closing a street down but rather by stepping up police patrol, increased fines or adding speed bumps.

I live on Ridgeway. People speed. But have you seen how fast they go on Cochran's Locke? Even faster! People don't speed on their own streets, but once it's someone else's neighborhood...it's a different story.
I drive like a little old lady. And I am proud of it! But when I was a teenager I drove like an idiot, driving so fast on Riverbend Road in Great Falls that the car would catch air on the hills. How stupid!!

i am sad to tell you that this isn't true. i walk down chickcoan daily and can't believe how many people who LIVE on that street blow the stop sign, speed the 1/4 mile to their houses and swing into their driveways without a turn signal. i've seen several kids on bikes on the sidewalk slam on their brakes and one even fell over to miss being hit by a resident. i know they aren't guests b/c i recognize the vehicles, and in some cases- the neighbors themselves.

inconsiderate boobs display boobism regardless of where they are.

I was Langley 87. We would jump the hill obn Arnon Chapel. They actually removed the"hill" because of it. Probably before you even started driving. We are lucky to have survived the Great Falls roads.

We have to find some way to get people to slow down.

It would be a terrible reflection on our neighbourhood if it took a kid getting killed to get people to drive appropriately. :(

unfortunately tragedy may be the only wake up call. who on EARTH doesn't know that speeding in a residential neighborhood is a horrible thing to do? self centered ppl think bad things happen to OTHER ppl or to OTHER ppl's kids.

i wish we could put up big temporary signs that show a bike, a helmet and a pool of blood with the caption: SLOW DOWN, KIDS AT PLAY. the more graphic, the better.

One morning I was driving down Ridgeway during Mill Run's drop off time before school. As I proceeded, slowly, towards the crossing guard area a woman in a minivan drove very quickly towards me, ignored the stop sign and almost ran over a police officer who was crossing kids!! It was unbelievable! Not only was she going well over the speed limit, she didn't stop at the school crossing area despite the presence of a cop in the middle of the street. The officer stopped her and approached her car, but I was on my way and didn't see what happened. She should have had her license immediately taken away. Such reckless people should not have the privilege of driving.

The one thing I have seen that actually works, but only on the larger roads, is to add a $200 additional fine for speeding, put up the signs and have officers routinely check for speeding and issue tickets. Look at Ashburn Village Blvd; it's almost an anomaly to see someone speeding on that road. The HOA has put in the request to have the additional $200 fine imposed on Ridgeway, so hopefully if that goes through, it will have a 'trickle down' effect on the smaller side roads connecting to it...

Wasn't a child hit and killed over in the Regency community a few years ago? It would be interesting to do a study of the driving habits of the residents and guests there to gauge how effective just such a tragedy may or may not have changed some people's conduct.

Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised to see drivers over there mimic some of the same actions displayed here. In general, folks tend to have short memories.
