I see on the DMV site that to get a Learner's Permit that you need to have your child's social security card to prove their SSN. Has anyone gotten a learner's permit recently for your child without having your SS card?

When my daughter got her learner's permit, I could not find her SS card anywhere. I brought a copy of a filed tax return that listed her as a dependant and her SSN on it. They took it.

FYI, the Westfield's DMV usually has little to no wait.

The DMV site says that Westfields is only a DMV Select and that you cannot get a learner's permit there, does anyone know if this is true or not?

No idea...all I know is our au pair was able to go in and out in about 20 minutes to get her license (but she's from Germany and didn't need to go through all the rigmarole normally associated with getting a license of any kind).

I misread the DMV website, Westfields is a full service DMV center. We got there at 11 AM yesterday and had to wait almost 50 minutes (even though the website was saying a 10 minute wait) to even go up to the window to say what we wanted. Then showed the paperwork (luckily did not ask for SSN card) and had to sit again for 15 minutes until my daughter could take the test.

yeah, their 'wait estimates' don't take into account the wait to even get a number.

Be lucky you weren't like me.. waited in a line like that only to get to the counter to be told they couldn't process licenses that day due to equipment failure. What, they couldn't just tell everyone that or post a note rather then making everyone wait 45min until you tell them?

    DMV earns its rep

You can request that the SSN not be shown on the license. Highly advised. They will product a unique driver license number that will appear on the license.

I have found the Leesburg DMV to be fairly quick. Does take some time but nothing outrageous. Also, a lot of stuff can be done on line and is a great way to go.

Guess the word is out about Westfields. :(

afgm, DMV hasn't put SSNs on drivers licenses for years. At least the past 9.
