Does anyone know of any reasonably priced local movers? I am looking to move a few heavy pieces, less than 1 mile away. (washer/dryer, 2 armoires, 1 bookcase, 2 couches 1 fridge, 1 bar, 1 pool table..that's it) One mover quoted me $1500.00, which seems a little high. I appreciate all input. Thanks

There used to be a couple commercial trucks parked over on Windmill that might of moved this stuff for you.

Try posting an ad on craigslist.com. We got movers thru craigslist and they charged us $400 to move our entire stuff from baltimore to ashburn.

Yeah DO NOT USE THESE GUYS. They were supposed to show up on 3/2. I even called on 2/28 to confirm. Between 9-9:30 am on 3/2. they were a no show. Tried calling thier number multiple times only to get an answering machine.

Ended up goign with All-Pro movers. They were great, and last minute.

after 6 moves with the military I learned that movers are not the place to go cheap- especially if you are moving items of sentimental or substantial monetary value! We've used Town and COuntry twice- from Springfield to Ashburn and within ahsburn when we moved the Broadands. Not the cheapest, but EXCELLENT, reliable service, hard workers, no B.S., honest contracts.

We have used JK Moving (or is it J&K?) for a local move and had a great experience. Paid the rate for four guys and they showed up with five guys for the same price and worked their tails off with the only break being a half an hour lunch break all day. Our previous move we used Dulles Movers and they were a bit cheaper by the hour, but took longer to move us as they took a 15 minute break every hour and didn't work nearly as fast as JK. Prior to that we used Movers R Us (after a last minute delay in settlement at the end of the month) and two of them got into three separate fights in our brand new house if you can believe it!

Whomever you use I would check references if you can (even for a small move of just a few things). Most will charge you a 3 hour minimum plus 1/2 or so for travel time. I would say $350-$400 is a good deal if you can get that. Other option is to rent a UHaul and find some guys that you can pay yourself to help you. Would save you some money, but might not be worth the hassle.
