My wife's birthday is coming up and I would like to give her a massage and possibly facial at a spa nearby; Leesburg or Lansdowne are fine.

Are there any recommendations on a nice, relaxing place?

    Thanks.

I'm not a huge spa person, but I've always liked Radiance - very nice without being pretentious.

Amenity Day Spa is great. Behind Home Goods. I've had facials and massages there. You don't have to deal with the size of Lansdowne and their parking. This is easy to get in and out of.

We recently discovered the "Salamander Resort and Spa" in Middleburg... OMG - it is an experience that really makes you feel special and the prices are very competitive. They have an incredible facility and if she goes early she can use the experience shower, Jacuzzi area at no additional cost. This will make her day!

I would never have thought of myself as a "spa person" either - but in meeting planning I've had the opportunity to go to some very nice resorts and have tried spa treatments at maybe 6 or 8 of those, which I compare to the basic mani-pedi place here that's inexpensive and the few splurges at day spas. The experience is much nicer if you can take more time and use the facilities, than the places where you go in for your treatment and leave. I would suggest for a very nice birthday present, go for a resort type spa like Lansdowne or Salamander. I haven't yet seen a day spa around here that has the amenities like a fitness center, sauna/steam room, jacuzzi, relaxation room, that can make it a full day getaway but if there is one I'd like to know about it. I had an extra day in Orlando recently with an evening flight so I checked out of my hotel and checked into a resort spa on a TravelZoo one-day deal - got a combo locker to secure my stuff and had great workout on cardio and weight equipment that rivaled Sport & Health, then read a book and had tea and free apples, spent time in the hot tub, jacuzzi and steam room, and back to relax until time for my facial, after which I took a leisurely shower and used the provided hair dryers etc to get ready to leave for my flight. I would absolutely recommend doing that and I'll do it again! It was sheer heaven. For me, the ambiance of the place makes a huge difference and the nicer ones have artfully designed areas with gorgeous stone and tile, and special lighting, rainfall showers - it is more luxurious than a plain functional space. I can vouch for Lansdowne but haven't been to any other resort spas in the DC area.
