Our family just adopted two rescued kittens. These are our first pets in this area, and was wondering if anyone would recommend a vet[?]

I found two that are pretty close to our house: Ashburn Farm Animal Hospital and Stream Valley Veterinary Hospital.

    Any help would be great!

I have three cats and one dog. We all go to Ashburn Farm Animal Hospital. We usually ask to see Dr. Pam Grasso. Love, love, love her. She's very holistic and doesn't like to prick the animals with needles unnecessarily. We tried Stream Valley, and apart from the convenience of location, didn't much care for it. Just our opinion.

Hope this helped a bit, and congratulations!

I can tell you which one NOT to go to -- Stream Valley. That is, unless you like to be price-gouged.

We still use the Clocktower Animal hospital in Herndon, going on 5yrs now. No complaints with how they've treated our cats.

We really like Ashburn Farm Animal Hospital and Dr. Grasso as well! The rest of the staff seems pretty nice, too.

We're still at Adams Mill Veterinary Hospital in Great Falls (right off Rt. 7 at Colvin Mill Run) - both Dr. Adams and Dr. Davis are wonderful. They have a new vet that we haven't used yet but will be next month - we like to see everyone because our dog has a chronic condition (IBS caused by allergies to preservatives) that has him in the vet's office on an emergency basis at least once a year and at one point he was there every 3-4 weeks until we were able to get him stablized.

Anyway, he's been seen by this practice since before he was born (his mother was a patient there too) and while they aren't the least expensive in the area, it's worth the drive because the care is first rate and they've been willing to work with us on the bills. Mary Lou at the desk is super nice too!

We take our dog to Chantilly Animal Hospital and have been extremely pleased with them. We adopted our dog from the Forever Home group and they use this hospital to check out their dogs so we continued to take him there. The vets there have been amazing.

jdhauer - I totally agree with you!!! Have been going to Adams Mill with our pets for many years. Dr. Adams and Dr. Davis are fabulous. And Mary Lou is a gem! It's a hike - but very well worth it. Dr. Adams is tough, but has earned the respect of many vets in the area - especially those that treat cancer, etc.

Ashburn Farm is very, very good. The vet there is good with animals and people.

We switched last year to Banfield, out of the PetSmart location in Sterling. What we like, in addition to the great staff, is the pet maintenance program. We pay a modest fee each month that covers all visits and basic services. There are different levels of plans. http://www.petsmart.com/banfield/index.shtml

We're not fond of Stream Valley. They have high prices.

One more reason why Banfield is a great option: today we took in our dog for annual shots and heartworm. The price: none. It fell under our monthly fee ($20).

Stay away from Stream Valley...they are a RIP OFF. They will ding you for every little thing. I walked out of there on one occasion with a $500.00 bill!!! My husband about killed me!! I think they make some kind of commission on the tests they want to perform.

Believe it or not I drive up to my Mom's vet in Winchester. Great doctors and good prices.

Olde Mill is great too. I had a friend who rescued a dog, only to have that dog, two weeks later, develop a rare blood disease and come to within INCHES of death. The folks at Olde Mill went out of their way to save this dog, and even obsorbed some of the cost. I mean there were specialists from all over involved in this dogs care. Poor Buster looked like a lost cause, but they didn't give up, and I am happy to report that 3 years later he is still with us.
