I use it occassionally. It's very nice to kick back and snooze in the morning and unwind in the evening. I am one of the last stops in the morning and first stops in the evening....so it's about 1:15 total time for me.

It runs $6 per trip if you pay as you go. Or you can buy a "book" of 10 "tickets" for $50. They accept Metrochek, if you get that from your employer.

Long story short, even if you have free parking in town, if you are driving yourself, it saves money (and time) to take the bus from the North Dulles Lot (behind AOL).

Happy to answer any other questions...

It depends on which stop in dc. I needed the very last stop (Union Station) and my total commute time was ~1:30-1:40 (door to door, one way). If you are impatient like me all that wasted time will drive you crazy; driving to the bus stop, waiting for the bus, ~15 stops(people slowly loading and unloading etc.) . There is also the issue of personal space; which I value highly.

In general, the buses are of nice quality, air conditioned, and the bus drivers are professional. And you definately save money taking the Yellow Bus.

I lasted 4 months at my job near union station. And vowed never to work in dc again(as long as I live in the broadlands). But that's just me. I took a pay cut to work closer to home and am very happy that I did.

Also, you should check out the bus schedule. The buses don't run all day, I believe the first bus leaving dc is ~3pm.

It's all about quality of life - both my husband and I took pay cuts to live and work in Ashburn and we are soooo happy we did it!! It makes a huge difference, not to mention less wear and tear on your cars and with the price of gas so high too.......

    amen to that.
Same situation here. I took a huge pay cut and am now working in Ashburn area and I can't begin to tell you how happy I am. I used worked near union station and experienced that crazy commute for a year, but I just couldn't do it anymore. I love living in Broadlands, so it was either to move close to DC or to change the job close to Broadlands. I took the second chose, and I'm really glad I did.. :)

I normally work in in Herndon, but when I have to spend the day at a customer site downtown, I take the Loudoun COmmuter bus. It's great. It may (or may not, depending on traffic) take more time, but it's stress-free time. The folks are helpful and the price is not so different than what I'd have to pay for a day in a garage downtown. their web page is http://www.loudoun.gov/transportation/mass.htm.

Please note that they do not make change, so if you're doing the "pay as you go" you need $6 in correct change. (volunteers get discounted travel if they take responsibility for ticket taking on a route).

I take it from time to time when I have to go into the office downtown. It's nice to live in the exurbs and still take mass transit.
