I have been boycotting Major League Baseball since 1971. The year Bob Short stole the national pastime out of the Nation's Capital. I mourned the loss for years, then got angry.

Baltimore went through a similiar situation when the football Colts left. What got me angry was Baltimore ended up with a replacement professional sports team before we got our baseball team back.

For that reason, I've never considered the Orioles any closer to my home or heart than the "San Diego Padres".

Now we are teased with another chance for the return of MLB, and it happens to be right here in Loudoun County.

I'd love to see it happen, and hope the County Government can find a way to support it, and not get in the way of the potential of my boycott ending.

Boy, based on the avalanche of responses, I guess it'll never happen. My dad used to take me to Senators games at DC Stadium (RFK after 1968) when I was a kid and I haven't been back to a big league game since (I'm now 47)- what a shame. I've coached Little League, Babe Ruth, and high school baseball, but I, too, will never embrace the Orioles and that little asbestos lawyer/owner of theirs who thinks he owns DC area baseball. What a hoot it would be to drive 8 miles down the road to see America's pastime again in a state-of-the-art stadium. I would be a season ticket holder until the day I die. And for those of you who would whine about traffic, etc., you just don't get it.

Actually the team that left in 71 to become the Rangers was the replacement team. The first team left to become the Twins. Since Washington is a two time looser I feel is what has hurt the chances over the years, I for one would rather see a minor league team in Loudoun. You can actually afford to take the entire family to a minor league game.

Two time losers? Has Chicago or Boston been without a team for 34 years? The Senators have won a World Series since either of those THREE teams have. Boston- 1918, Chicago Cubs- 1908, Chicago White Sox- 1906, Washington Senators- 1924!!! Based on your argument, they should have yanked the Red Sox, Cubs, and White Sox outta Boston and Chicago over 86 years ago!!

I am not saying they were yanked because they were a loosing team. I was saying D.C. lost two baseball teams because they didn't have enough support from local government or enough fans to fill the seats. MLB attendance is down all over, the owners are crying the blues about revenue and they want to be certain wherever they put a team there will be enough support from fans and local government . They don't want to have to make a move again in a few years.
In addition I STRONGLY feel the MLB itself is to blame for the pickle they are in. Owners strong arming local governments and fans by demanding free stadiums, million dollar crybaby players and greedy agents. Throw in over priced tickets, $5.00 hot dogs, $5.00 sodas and $20.00 parking. It's no wonder attendance is down. I enjoy baseball just as much as the next guy but, to me watching minor league play is just as enjoyable as a major and the minor league ball games are way more family and fan oriented.

I remember taking my stepson and daughter to numerous Prince William (now Potomac) Cannons games and they could hardly wait for the game to end so they could get all the players' autographs as they left the locker room. It was special watching Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte, Pete Rose, Jr., etc. play ball there as struggling high-A prospects. Wasn't the best baseball I ever saw, but the players were as excited as the kids were to be there.
