Bet they get more reasonable when the Safeway gas pumps open up -- whenever that is...

Is this the one on Truro? We stopped in there on Saturday afternoon and noticed they had signs on the doors saying they were going to be closed several days for construction. No other details though.

:DLaughing:) Boomer, certainly can understand your parochialism. I feel the same about revealing the Ashburn Farm "special" entrance to the Greenway. ;)

I was in the gas station today, and asked them why they were converting from Mobil to Sunoco. They told me that Sunoco had purchased 247 Mobil stations and were converting them.

The problem is that the color scheme (AFAIK) was not passed by the Modifications Committee of the Commercial Owners Assocation. I seem to remember that due to the merger of Mobil & Exxon, Circle K took over the site from Mobil and was required to maintain the same design as Mobil was going to do. I believe that included the color scheme.

Sorry... did you say color scheme? It's a GAS STATION. Suburbia is weird. Maybe I should move back to Alexandria...

Yes, color scheme ... and a Homeowner's Association with rules and covenants. That's what living in a planned community like the Broadlands is all about. Surely that isn't a surprise to you, is it?

Drove by the new Sunoco yesterday and saw this supposed illegal color scheme.

I understand that, on principle, the owner should have secured approval for the new scheme. If people are going to complain about the color scheme, though, I guess they will complain about anything. It's not like Sunoco put up a 50 foot rotating sign -- it's a very modest design on the store and the gas pumps (as if the lime green plaza behind it is any better?). And I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for our home values to plummet because of it...

Though this may be true, we ALL have to uphold our agreement in order to reside in this area. Local businesses should also. If I cant paint my house Yellow/Red, I dont think Sunoco should be able to do the same.
With that lime green on those other buildings, I agree, its ugly. But it does kind of blend in so it doesnt bother me as much (still dont know if it follows HOA rules), but the sunoco colors will definitely bother me and it "obviously" does not blend nor conform to that of the surrounding neighborhood. We'll have to see what happens.
Maybe we can let them keep the colors and fine them enough money that the rest of us no longer have to pay HOA dues.....hmmmmmm.....:D J/K

Would be nice ... but in reality, the HOA can't do anything about it, it falls under the COA.
