I've been having a serious problem with nails in the street due to the construction. In the last 6 months or so I have had to replace all 4 tires on my car. Today I took my car to the shop because I noticed a large screw in my left rear tire. I just got a call that I had 5 nails in my rear tires and both had to be replaced. Not to mention the several times that I have had to have the tires repaired for nails. It's getting rediculous. I've now spent over $700 in the last 6 months replacing/fixing nails in the tires. I have had guests get nails in their tires from coming over to our house twice now.

I have sent an email to Van Metre customer care complaining about this issue but I doubt that it will help. Van Metre must do a better job keeping the streets clean. Just walking down the street I can see many nails/screws/other bad things. It's horrible and the street sweeping they are doing only helps a little. Something has to be done as this is starting to get really expensive. Can the HOA do something about this?

This also poses a serious issue for children that play around here. I've found nails in my yard and driveway due to the street cleaners they use just throwing the debris around. I don't want my niece playing in my yard for fear that she will fall and get cut by a rusty old nail.

I understand that it's a construction zone but Van Metre has a responsibility to keep the streets safe and clean and not make our yards dangerous at the same time.

I know it's not your job but if you have time you could go rent an industrial magnet to sweep up the nails. Then charge it to Van Metre!

Just don't hook the magnet up to AOL TopSpeed 9.0 Optimized. You might hurt yourself. [:p]

contact HOA and see what they say.
It's an entirely different story, but just so you know,
After the amount of snow we had the year before, the snow splowing trucks ripped part of concrete that sealed the sewer opening. Since the sewer opening was located right in front of our drive way, we had to run over the uneven opening for weeks, so I sent an email to HOA director, and within a month, they were there to repave the area...give it a shot,, nothing to loose, you know

I can see those nails ripping through the air like the bullets in the Matrix.

I'll give that a try also and see if that helps. The Director of Construction for the Broadlands is supposed to be contacting me about this issue so we'll see what he has to say as well.

There was a street sweeper out on Sat or Sun on Clairborne and Waxpool.

I've had my tires fixed twice for nails. I still pull nails and screws outta my tires. Sometimes I get lucky and it doesn't go all the way in and sometimes it does. I swear I now have a small leak from a nail I pulled out. Might be time to get it fix.

Construction sites suck and I'll be moving into one in May :(

I would have but they were the original tires for the car with no road hazard on them. All of the new tires do have road hazard on them. Still cost me 700 to get the originals replaced as they got nailed...

You need to speak with the Site Superitendent and if he/she doesn't take action (kick some subs' derriers to keep the nails out of the street) then take it to his boss (usually the Project Manager). It is the builders' responsibility to take care of this kind of thing but they usually won't unless someone complains. You might even be able to get Van Metre to pay for your tire repairs. Then there are other remedies but start with this....
