I purchased an instahot (hot water dispenser) to install by our kitchen sink, but realized that we don't have a non-switched outlet under the sink to plug it into. There is an outlet for the disposal, but it is switched. Anyone know of any creative solutions to get this working? If I need to call an electrician, will they be able to install a new outlet under the sink without too much trouble?

Is the disposal plugged into a dual outlet? If so, most likely only the outlet that the disposal is plugged into is "switched". The other plug should be "unswitched".

No, it's just a single outlet.

Where is your dishwasher in relation to your sink? If it's next to the sink, pull the dishwasher out and disconnect the romex leading to the dishwasher, drill a hole in the side of the cabinet and run it into a surface mount electrical box and attach it to an outlet under there, then back out the box through the hole to the dishwasher, giving you a constant outlet. I'd use two holes myself, with some flex conduit, just to be on the safe side.

Sounds like a good possibility, although I think there will be three sections of cabinetry for me to drill through. The sink is in the corner at an angle, and there is a narrow set of drawers between the sink and the dishwasher. I'll investigate when I get home tonight.

We just moved in 2 weeks ago... wish I had thought of this back when we made our electrical selections with the builder!

Brim, thanks for the tip. As it turns out there is an outlet behind the dishwasher, and some holes already drilled for the hoses going to and from the dishwasher. I just need to feed an extension cord through there and I will be good to go.
