I just got a coupon in the mail for this place:

    http://www.kingpinzbowl.com/

An "upscale, luxury" bowling alley with a dress code (no headgear or bandanas, no excessively baggy clothing, etc)...

Should be interesting. It's by the new Wegmans in Leesburg.

Sounds fun. Lucky Strike in Chinatown is the same way, no tennis shoes, no athletic gear, nothing gang related. I love going there.

I miss when bowling was a cheap activity, with a greasy grill, beer, and friendly (but sometimes stinky) place.

I'm with you!!! Bowling is a big thing in WNY during the winter, if you're not in a league, you're nobody. :) It used to be a great activity with family and cheap fun.

I just went into the link - 12 alleys isn't very many....at all....I'm betting it'll be hard to get a lane there, especially in the beginning.

I think it's less about the bowling than about the club like atmosphere.

Yeah, when they advertise themselves as 'luxury' up front.. what do you think a game will cost.. like $15/game? 25?

their hourly rates look whacked. Why would you pay per hour when you can pay $5/game? Who finishes a game of bowling in less then 5 minutes? Unless they really would kick you off after one game which would be LAME

    MY PREDICTION:
some people will go with their kids and complain about how expensive everything is and not go back.

some people will not ever go because they think it's too expensive to go to with their kids.

adults will go without their kids and will be happy to pay more for the atmosphere.

serious bowlers will be thrown off their game by the lack of screaming kids and layer of smoke and nacho grease in the air, and will stay with bowl America.

DINKs (Double Income No Kids) will love it and so will older teens with jobs that can afford it, or parents that give them enough money.

i think it will succeed, but it won't be another family place- which, I don't think is a horrible thing!

Parallel, Bowley Alley- LoCo is becoming an adult playground! :)

I agree - I'm going to let the newness wear off before I go. Still - 12 alleys just doesn't seem like enough.....just saying...

$5 per game per person + $4.50 per person shoe rental = $48/ family of four for one game, $68 for two games, etc...

    Too rich for my blood.
