I am taking my son (age 15) on a business trip to conduct training for teachers and parents in Texas and Atlanta in ten days. My son plays guitar and enjoys Blue music (and classic Rock) so we've already scheduled a couple nights in Austin, which is a fun town.

We have the weekend free between Texas and Atlanta, so thought we'd stop by New Orleans. I could really use help with the following:

    (1) Hotel--can you recommend a safe, reasonably priced hotel that's convenient to the sights (hopefully not the scary ones) and sounds of the city? We'll have some valuable stuff with us so we're emphasizing safe. It's two guys so we don't need ornate antiques or anything fancy, but we'd like to have a feel for the city.

    (2) Music Clubs--In Chicago, Austin and other cities, we have found clubs where my son could get in to listen to live music. They just make his hands and face look like Mike Tyson's with black marker signifying he can't go anywhere near the bar! If you happen to know of any clubs where underage kids can get in, that would be helpful.

Any other do's and don'ts are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I haven't been to New Orleans since before Katrina but all ages are welcome at Preservation Hall. I've always highly enjoyed it there over multiple visits to the city.
