Think there are plenty of signs at Waxpool/Claiborne now? :)

I know I ran the one at shellhorn when they first put that one in;, but it was night, that road isn't lit and the trees hid the sign until the last minute. Those excuses don't hold at Waxpool/claiborne. I thought they generally put the signs up with covers on them for a few days so folks would realize they were there before they went into effect. The other thing I've seen is portable flashing lights on them for the first few days. I guess that technology is just a little too cutting edge for Loudoun VDOT.

What would you all like? A cop with his lights on in the middle of the street 24/7?

How about putting the burden on the IDIOTS DRIVING THE CARS. If you can't see or obey signs, you shouldn't be driving.

Next time you see a moron ready to run the sign.. sit on your horn. That will wake them up.

Honestly you can't make every excuse in the world and try to cover every possibility with the road, the design, or the signs are not at fault. Its the morons not able to perform a simple task.

I wish we'd simply enforce better driver education and testing. Driver's Ed is a joke, and repeat testing is literally non-existant. Make people prove they can drive, rather then giving anyone and everyone a license to kill.

Sadly we don't live in a society that demands personal responsibility.

Glad to see the stop signs at Waxpool/Claiborne. Any idea when we might see something at Broadlands/Claiborne?

The stop light at Waxpool/Claiborne will replace the 4-way stop signs "by September, but no later than October. All approvals complete" according to an e-mail from Steve Snow.

I have no problem with personal responsibility .. however, when it comes to safety, I'd rather make sure that people know that there is a change in the traffic pattern coming for a few days prior to actually changing the pattern. This gets people used to the fact that there is something about to change there.

More often, the problems I see are people with cell phones glued to their ears, who pay more attention to their conversation than to the road.

Or a minivan full of kids with the parent having one arm in the back seat trying to keep the peace.

For what it is worth, I think that the new four way stop sign is a HUGE improvement over the previous intersection. It is not nearly as stressful to approach anymore. Sure, this is not the ideal situation, but from one that passes through this intersection multiple times a day, it is much better. Bring on the stoplight (and the alternate route--Wynridge to Ryan Road)!!!

OK, what's with the left-turn arrows "under" the yellow striped paint lines in the turn lanes??? Normally, yellow lines mean no access to that lane...people are making turns from that lane (apparently because they see the arrows still there). So as I'm waiting in the "legal" lane to make a left hand turn after I stop, someone comes up around me to make a left hand turn. Another accident waiting to happen...am I missing something?

My assumption is that the arrows should have been painted over in black, but they weren't. I also assume that once the traffic signals are installed, the turn lanes will be reinstated along with timed left turn arrows. Wishful thinking?

I had this exact problem yesterday. Was turning right from the "correct lane" (with signal on) and someone behind me was rushing to get right from the old (now illegal) lane so they pulled up beside me to also turn right. I went right when it was my turn, but that person obviously thought I was invading their space because they honked good and long.

    Definite accident waiting to happen.

I'll have to look to see if it's VDOT or the county who is responsible for the painting to see if they consider the job done or not...

I believe that is a good assumption, rather than remove or overpaint the arrows, VDOT assumed (you know what that means) that all drivers in Virginia understand what yellow lines mean, and that they can pull up those taped lines once the signal lights go in, saving them alot of time and (incidentally) taxpayer money.

Of course, then you have the winners of the Darwin awards who are completely clueless !!! :(
