Friday evening, we noticed a leak in our basement coming from our AC. We turned off the AC and thankfully the one upstairs was still pumpin'. This was around 5pm. We called VM and they "called" the HVAC service people. We were told "oh we left a message" someone will call you tonight. Keep in mind we had inlaws in town and wanted to do things and go out this weekend.

No one called. We get up today call VM, "no - you should have gotten a call from the HVAC people - we will call again and someone will call you". No phone call. At 3pm we call an outside contractor who was at our house in an hour. We had told them we wanted to do a maintenance agreement with them. When the guy showed up, nice as could be told us there would be no charge for the call as he would incorporate it as our first "fall" maintenance check and he would do the whole thing today. Turns out, we had debris, construction debris that blocked our hose. However the bad news was....We have a 2 ton ac unit which is for upstairs and a 3 ton one for downstairs - or something like that. The one in the basement is not meant for there - it is meant for the one upstairs and the one upstairs was meant for the one downstairs. So we have to have VM come out and move both AC units entirely! AHHHHHH!!! He told us he could not do maintenance or inspect it until after VM came out and removed both units and put them where they should go so we got charged for the service call.

Bottom line, if we had not had the debris and leak, our AC would have burnt out somewhere down the line and $$$$!

    Check your units out!

We will have quite a phone call to VM on Monday.

This is interesting. We were told that the larger unit is for the upstairs because there is more heat to disipate.

We did but we got an answering machine and no one called us back.

I can't remember which unit is for what level but ours is wrong and it's a 2 ton unit hooked up to a 3 ton coil and vice versa. It makes sense to me that the larger unit would be for the main level and basement - wouldn't that be more area?

True. Just check to be sure your AC's are where they are suppose to be.

We recently had a minor problem with a leaky attic fan.

I contacted Van Metre Customer Care and spoke with Rebecca (703-723-2818. She is/was fantastic. She requested an email be sent to her regarding the issue. I sent an email to customercare@vanmetrehomes.com.

50% of our problems has been resolved and the entire problem will be complete on Wednesday of this week.

I thought this might be helpful???

I also encountered the dreaded "construction debris" blocking the drain hose. It had flooded half the rec-room before I noticed. I kept wondering what the smell was...hmmmm... I fixed it myself, quite easily, once I found the culprit. I will re-check the coil-to-unit size though.

My AC for my upstairs has never worked if the outside temp goes over 72. They replaced they outside unit, but it still gets up to 78 in my master br. Still waiting for major finishes since July move in.

    If I knew I wouldn't ask
