    Hi,

Just wanted to give "y'all" an excellent recommendation for a great grass fed local butcher and meat market. It is located in Jefferson, MD (about 45 minutes from Leesburg, VA area near Point of Rocks/Frederick, MD area). It is called Hemp Meats.

Hemp Meats is a 30 year institution in the area for the grass fed meat. The owners are also farmers as we are and have over 100 acres too where they have their own cows that are grass fed and processed. The shop is a full-service old-fashioned butcher shop that sells fresh farm meats like pork, country bacon, country pork sausage (bulk, links, etc.), lamb, veal that melts in your mouth like butter, fresh farm eggs, poultry (all types), jerky, Amish cheese, Amish meat, and grass fed beef.

Even though we use a USDA processor in Fauquier County for our livestock, one of our friends told us about this wonderful place. They even sell fresh lard too. We tried the grass fed meat at our friends' home recently at dinner. Great food!

Also, great hours for service. Check out their Yelp! reviews too.

Thank you for sharing this! My parents used to purchase various cuts of meat from a butcher in Alexandria, and we had a well-stocked freezer that lasted us through the winter.

    Now if we could get a decent, well-priced bakery . . .

If you go to Jefferson, MD to Hemp's Meats, right next door is the best and closest thing to an Amish/Mennonite bakery/pastry shoppe, except what I make from scratch (I am Mennonite so I know of what I speak!), called Jefferson Pastry Shoppe. It used to be the original Hemp's Meats and the butcher/meat market expanded and moved next door to their new facility.

The bakery makes old-fashioned eclairs, apple fritters, donuts, breads, rolls, pies, cupcakes, cakes, special orders, etc. Check out their site below.

    Enjoy!;)

P.S. The recession has stopped us from our web order business of bulk foods and Mennonite baked goods. PM if you wish details.

Awesome! Thank you! We travel through those parts on our way to and from PA, so we will definitely check both out.

Thank You for the recommendation Foodie. We will be giving them a try. Just watched Food Inc. last night and don't think I will ever be able to buy beef and chicken from the grocery store again.

No kidding!!! There is another good show called Food Matters (http://www.foodmatters.tv/) that is also interesting. I'm not too keen on their web site, but the movie was good.
