I guess it's a good thing most folks don't charge for the opportunity to tell me their prices or shopping around would get pretty expensive.

Does that mean I have to pay $50 to get an estimate then, if I use you, my $50 gets credited to the service? I just want to make sure I understand...

Let me be clear $50 an estimate but upon acceptance of job the $50 dollars will be subtracted from your total cost so in retrospect the estimate will be free. Might I add 100% guaranteed quality work, 100% guaranteed service in timely manner, 100% guaranteed 20% to 30% cheaper than any other licensed contractor. Thank you for your comments

    Sincerely Desmond Bowles

So if your work is 100% guaranteed to be 20% to 30% cheaper than any other licensed contractor, why do you need to charge the $50 for the estimate? How about you give ME $50 before you provide me with your estimate. If I decide to give you the work, I'll add the $50 to the total cost on your estimate. Seems only fair...

How does your '20% to 30% cheaper than' guarantee work? If we get an estimate elsewhere, do you guarantee to do the exact same work for 20%-30% less? That's a pretty big claim you're making and I'd be interested in knowing the 'rules' around your offer. Can you be a bit more specific? Do you have these 'guarantees' in writing somewhere?

I wonder if this means that when I receive competitive quotes that he will base the "20% to 30% cheaper" on those quotes?

aaaand welcome to the broadlands hoa board desmond! This is a tough but loyal and informed crowd, they don't let any opportunity to have a wit war slide... :) And clearly, we don't pay for estimates, not with so much competition doing the same thing for free. Nothing gets by this crew. 3 tools to survive here: infallible service, excellent prices and tough as leather skin! ;)

Had Outback Total Landscaping out on Saturday to provide their expertise on which trees should be thinned out in our overcrowded backyard. They provided some great feedback and a free written estimate. They also gave me a $50 credit if we choose to use their services.

I will need to get anything approved by the HOA before work can begin.
