We live on Welby Terrace and wondered if anyone knows why the playground, benches, and pathway to said playground, between Welby and Harvest Green Square, is being dismantled. Is it being replaced with something else?

The entire structure was falling apart and was getting very close to being unsafe. We had hoped to have completed all the demolition beginning of February with the new equipment put in place by the end of the month. With the snow that time table was blown. The new equipment will include swings (2 belts, a toddler and a tire) a climbing structure (but only 36" high for the littler kids) a play hut and a firetruck. This is all part of the reserve funds for equipment replacement and repair.
The wood playground was cheaper to tear down then to repair any longer. I will try to scan in and post pictures of the new playground design.

I hate to open a sore subject again, but are there any plans yet to put another tot lot or any baby swings in Southern Walk?

Any tot lots will be coming in from the developer and as far as I know there are no more plans to add any but I will ask at the March HOA meeting unless you would like to come and ask yourself.
At this point in time I do not have any plans to add and baby swings anywhere as I have no money to make and additions. As I need to make replacements/ repairs this is something I do hope to address. Once the weather warms up I plan to walk the SW playgrounds and see what needs exist for equipment and upkeep.

Thanks. I am regretting I never sent a letter to Van Metre asking for a tot lot to replace the one that go derailed. Guess we'll have to continue to hike or drive to the nearest baby swings. (Unless you find that there are swings that need to be replaced...)

I thought VM promised to increase the equipment and make the Nature Center playground bigger and better, because they bailed on the SW playground..... Which by the way the served the needs of a sellfish few, the most vocal one - bought their home out of Foreclosure and should have just done the research!

    Staci -

I wasn't able to come to the meeting. Did you get a chance to ask VM about a new tot lot in SW? I might be able to get off work early for next month's meeting, if you think it will help.

She did ask and the answer was "no."

    Hi Pam
As Cliff said I did ask and VM has no more plans for any more tot lots. I did do an inventory of what we have in the SW part of the community yesterday. Unfortunately there is not a lot for me to work with right now, but I will see what I can do. With a lot of them being wood they are going to need to be replaced at sometime in the future (the wood ones just do not last) but I am not sure that will be coming fast enough for you or any one currently with young kids.
I do have a few ideas that I am working on but if you would like to discuss it further send me a PM or you can call me (my # is in the newsletter or on the website) and I am happy to talk.

And I should have followed up with ".....but she rarely takes "no" for answer."

The new playground between Welby Terrace and Harvest Green has been installed and was open for use this afternoon. We are still waiting on the arrival of the firetruck - but expect to have it in and installed by next week.

Welby Terrace is the street across for the Summerbrook pool (Demott Drive - sprinkler pool). It goes around in a loop and at the back corner there is a path that connects you to Harvest Glen (entrance is across the street from Hillside Elementary). Hope that gives you a better idea.

As for VM making a commitment to build out the Nature Center tot lot - I never remember them saying that. I know there was a time they said they would consider it but at the last meeting they clearly stated they were done with Tot lots in the community.

I am still working on some other ideas to get more added to the SW tot lots but I am not sure how quickly I will get that accomplished.

I took my 4 year old niece to the play ground there this weekend and she LOVED it! Especially the tire swing. A great improvement from the one before. I was wondering what the open space next to the "store" was but reading that a firetruck is arriving, it makes sense.
