Ahh okay. It still sounds kind of vague though. He could have been charged with Sexual Battery if a girl turned him in after a night of drinking that went a specific direction. He certainly doesn't come off as a dangerous person and has always been very kind to me, I didn't even know he was a convicted sex offender until last night, and I first met him months ago. He worked well at the Steakhouse and never once did anyone suspect that he had other intentions, even on Kids Eat Free night. I understand that the people living near him would be concerned, but people often jump to conclusions before knowing the whole story. Sometimes people make mistakes, and it wasn't a repeated offense.

I do not mean to offend anyone, I don't have children so I can't full grasp the situation from the parent's perspective. I just know that Pat was a very caring individual the entire time that I was around him.

If anyone does know more details, I would apperciate a mesage on it.

The steakhouse guy isn't the problem. The problem is the sicko on autumnwood who financed child porn with the intent to distribute.

Homer - I actually whole heartedly agree with your entire post. Well said and thank's for speaking what's on your mind (as I am sure there are other folks who are thinking the same thing).

i echo the sentiment on the steakhouse guy... i am concerned about the child porn guy living in an area where tons of kids go back and forth every day.

Maybe you should bash this sex offender on the forums. For all you know he could be online and reading your posts and gathering your information!

Like screen names? I suppose he could cross-reference them with the Universal Message Board Screen Name Compendium v3.87 (tm) and come up with your address and children's day-to-day schedule. Those pedos sure have some advanced tools!

/me passes out the tin foil hats.

well if he didn't know how to before, he does now...

regardless, i can't see censuring myself out of fear of what someone might do to retaliate. especially since nothing being said here is slanderous to him or untrue.

just a quick reminder- look over the list and stay vigilant! with holiday breaks coming up and more kids roaming around in this mild weather- it can't hurt to be a little extra vigilant. entering our zip codes brings up 3 pages of offenders from Sterling to Purceville...

stay alert folks and keep our kids safe!

What I don't get is why these people are allowed to work around children.

Loudoun is known as a very friendly children place, some of the most kids per capita in the country. Far as I am concerned thay should not be allowed to work and live in areas such as loudoun, orange county california and others where there are a lot of kids. Just common sense.

Also I think the law needs to change a bit. Does not make sense if a 18 year is involved with a 17 year old and it is consensual and the 18 year old can be prosecuted for a sex crime and be labeled so for the rest of their life. Should be some kind of sliding scale.

I agree with you on this point Lee. The problem I have with these laws is that they are black/white. You are a sex offender or you aren't, and the laws apply universally to everyone. For many of these invidivuals, there is little or no risk of recidivism--why should these laws apply equally to everyone?

There is a timely article in today's Washington Post at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/21/AR2006112101468.html about this issue.

And now states are rolling out convicted meth-user registry sites and believe this - right in VA a dangerous dog registry site. Although these laws were made out of good intentions, most of them were created emotionally, not for practicality.

I agree with Pats fan and mwb.

Research on predators shows they are typically not strangers. From what I have read, the majority of sexual assaults on children are perpetrated by relatives or close friends who are well known to the victim and his/her family.

I think that even one child molested by a stranger is one too many. Percentages don't work when you're talking about abhorrent crimes against humanity.
