Those of us with special-needs children have valid concerns regarding the over-capacity and budget-cut proposals.

And those of us with children in general education have the same concerns. What benefits special education benefits ALL children in the school system - the majority of kids receiving services are in general education classrooms.

Btw, Mr. School Board Chairman, it's "general education", not "regular education". We didn't buy our children "as-is" from the outlet mall. They are not "irregular" because they receive special education services.

For those opposed to building new schools: Do you know that 504 and IEP students must settle for "compensatory services", since there are not enough resources to provide them during the day? Imagine, a special-needs child, unguided throughout a full school day. Support for challenges faced DURING the school day are assessed and attempted AFTER they were presented. Can you understand how confusing and less effective this method is for not only the student, but also for the parents? We need more schools.

I am not opposed to building new schools if capacity warrants but do we have to pay 100 million to build it and pack it with toys that don't do anything to improve the education of the students?

According to DoEd numbers over the past several decades, spending on education has quadrupled but overall test scores remain unchanged.
