Scouting for Food Collection Saturday November 11, 9a-12p

First conducted in November 1988, Scouting for Food is a nationwide food collection representing the Boy Scouts of America's response to the unacceptable problem of hunger in our society. Last year in our district Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts collected over 91,000 pounds of food for residents in need in our own community.

"The Boy Scouts are responding to the ever increasing demand for basic needs assistance in Loudoun County," says Brian Shiflett, Scouting for Food Coordinator in Loudoun County. "Collecting a large stock of non-perishable food goes a long way to meeting the emergency food requirements of our local agencies, not only during the holiday season, but well into next year. To fill this growing demand, the Scouts will attempt to canvass over 70,000 homes this year."

Grocery bags and information will be distributed to front doors throughout Broadlands November 4 to 10. Please fill the bag – feel free to add more bags of your own – and place it on your front step before 9 am on November 11. Scouts will be around that day to pick up the food and take it to a local collection point.

The Scouts and families of Cub Scout Packs 1483 (Hillside ES) and 1484 (Mill Run/Legacy ES) would like to express our gratitude to the families of Broadlands, Brambleton, and other southern Ashburn local neighborhoods for the incredibly generous response for the national Scouting for Food drive the past two weekends. The Packs together collected 9842 pounds of food, almost 10% of the 98,661 pounds of food (a new record!) collected overall in Loudoun County by 80 Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops. Pack 1483 collected 5437 pounds primarily from Broadlands, and Pack 1484 collected 4405 pounds mostly from Brambleton and surrounding areas. Your generous contributions will help feed over 1600 needy families in Loudoun County during the holiday season. Thanks again to all and we will see you again next year in early November!
