I wish we would see more "Mom & Pop" type of businesses such as a family owned bakery rather than more of the same type of chains.

Mom & Pop restaurants seem rare in this area. I think it can be attributed to the transient nature of people/jobs in this area. The DC area is ripe for one to five year stints, thus leaving little continuity. Just a theory. But we have been amazed at the lack of regular non-chain diners and restaurants compared to other cities.

    Try Los Toltecos in Countryside.

In Leesburg, on Catoctin Circle, there is Casa Gonzales.
That is sit down. They have yummy mexican food and a guy stolls around the restaurant and plays guitar.
    We love it.

I love Mexican food. I've been to all three, Los Toltecos, Picante and Casa Gonzales.

Los Toltecos has a bigger menu than Casa and I like the Salsa better. I think the food is a little better at Toltecos. I used to goto Casa a lot but now I go to Toltecos. Both of these are "Americanized Mexican". The standard non-Tex mex menus.

Picante is just way ahead of the other two but it's almost too much food so I don't eat there as much. The food is authentic. They have stuff on the menu that I haven't seen since Cancun. Try the Poblanos Con Crema!

Can anyone refresh my memory on whether this plaza will have a realty office?

So, obviously they missed the November date. Looks like they are getting close to opening though. Any update from Tetra on the tenants/owners?

I also have to say I was disappointed to see the lights so far are not dark-sky-friendly since the globes are unshielded on the sides (like the ones along the street instead of the ones in the Boyd School and Church parking lots). It's a shame.

More community surgical lighting! Just what we need. In Ashburn Farm they were able to get the Exxon (near Shoppers) to replace their lights to a less offensive variety. Same effort failed at the Exxon near Giant.

I finally drove by to take a look at this new "Commercial" structure.
I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this looks like Architecture left over from the early 70's. (Reminds me of the offices at Countryside). After the Village Center, (Which IMO looks awesome) I thought that this was going to look even more spectacular, considering it is more in the heart of our community. What a disapointment. I'm all for more business, but come on, who approved this design? It seems like the conversation may have sounded a little something like this. "Hey lets build this thing as cheaply as possible, and then charge astronomical rents, which we can because everyone wants to be in the "BROADLANDS" and line out pockets!" Pity the people who have to see this from their properties everyday. IMO someone really blew it on this one.

I agree! That's why some people are opposed to the hospital!

Yep, I think it looks cheesy too, with the outdoor stairs and balcony set up. Wow, I feel so sorry for the peeps that live next to that.

Maybe, but not necessarily. Gas stations are no different than fast food restaurants. They are franchise-type businesses. Generally, oil companies don't own and operate gas stations (obviously, there are exceptions). Instead, they franchise their name, etc. to people like you and me. We follow their business model, buy their gas, and pay them a franchise fee -- we then keep the profit (or loss).

Whether the Exxon stations in this area are owned by the same person is unknown to me. It's possible, but not the general rule.

I heard a rumor that that the mobils were owned by the same franchise owner. Don't know if it's true but I'm sure we're getting gouged just b/c we're Ca$hburn.

Yes I also am disappointed so far at the facade, but I am still hoping it's not done yet. The developers told neighbors to look at their property in Reston to see what it would look like. That is a nice looking complex with a brick facade. So maybe there are finishing touches yet to be done...
