Has anyone noticed the trees on Chickacoan Trail Drive?
And looked at the trees right in your yard? Some have a fungus on the branches and there are no leaves. Our redbuds in our yard look horrible.
We are having some expert come out tomorrow to look at them
However, last evening we were out for a walk just around the block and I noticed that trees on Chickacoan Trail Drive -- Sweet Gum trees? also look terrible. No, they are not dehydrated, there is something damaging the branches... I am gonna find out
and if I remember I will come back and report. Meantime, go have a look at your trees and which ones are lacking leaves. Look at the branches if you can touch them you will feel black squishy bumps. Yikes! It looks systemic and contagious.
Life is very busy @ our domicile and this is the last thing I feel like dealing with :p

Hello SK8R...I looked at the area and here is what I have surmised. The affected trees along Chickacoan are London Plane Trees (also called Sycamores). Right now they are suffering from a fungal leaf issue called Sycamore Anthracnose. This particular fungus thrives in cool moist conditions, and we have had a lot of that this year. The problem usually all but disappears when the hot days arrive.
This is a particularly bad year for fungal leaf problems. However, unless the trees sustain multiple years in a row of very severe 'attacks', there typically is not a long term risk of tree failure.
    I hope this helps!

Thank you very much for this information!
I wonder if this is the same fungus that is on our redbud trees.
WE called three tree specialists last week, left messages as they said in their recording they were busy and would get back... and have not heard from any specialists...
My two redbuds look a little better, a few more leaves, but they are far smaller than the Sycamores trees (thanks for the ID) I am not sure how this will work out for them this year. I will be hopeful
Again thank you very much for your diagnosis.
