I just saw a small, yellow bird outside my window. It was clinging to the window screen, and it was chirping away madly. I tried to photgraph it, but I startled it when I reached for the camera.

I am hoping it's not someone's pet, but I can't think of any small, yellow birds except for canaries and parakeets.

It was bright yellow, and it was about the size of a sparrow.

Anyone have any idea what small, yellow birds are native here?

Gold finches. The males are bright yellow and black and they often hang upside down when they eat

I think that's it. I googled it, and found a Cornell University site that had goldfinch songs recorded. It sounded like the one I heard. I'm glad it's not someone's pet that got loose.

If you have a bird feeder, fill it with black oil sunflower seeds. The goldfinches go nuts over them!
