    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has noticed the smell of smoke when you went outside this morning? I left the house around 10am but when I reached Lansdowne it was much stronger. It has been so dry outside I hope there isn't a brush fire...

I just received the following from the National Weather Service, may explain what you're smellin' :)

    --- cut here ---

Smoke from fires in eastern North Carolina and the Great Dismal
Swamp in southeast Virginia has been drifting northward in weak
southerly flow around high pressure today. The smoke will be
crossing northern and central Virginia...metropolitan Washington
and Baltimore...southern Maryland...and the Potomac Highlands
this afternoon. Central Virginia will receive some of the thicker
smoke...with visibility between 1 and 3 miles possible.

Expect a smoky sky with reductions in visibility. The smoke should be
able to dissipate as the afternoon continues.

While vacationing in Nags Head, NC last week with the family, we were affected by the thick smell of smoke on a couple days, and one day, we had 3-4 hours of ash falling from the sky as if it were snowing.

I did smell something this afternoon that was an odd odor....smoke mixed with humidity I guess.

Did anyone see the black smoke yesterday evening off in distance? It was off to the South / Southeast probably a few miles away.
