had a home inspection done. found out our original hardie planks were installed incorrectly by Van Metre (the original builders of the community).

Hardie planks are suppose to last over 50+ years if installed properly but apparently almost all the homes in the South Broadlands area had the original installation job done incorrectly which will lead to moisture buildup and eventually the siding will disintegrate and lead to other problems for the homes.

Scheduled a re-installation for 35K. Has anyone else experienced this yet?

Looked into the limited warranty provided by James Hardie and it won't cover on installation if its done incorrectly from the start which happened.

Did a James Hardie representative determine the install was faulty?

This has not been a commonly discussed problem that I am aware of... been here since 2004. I did hear about paint issues and warranty claims for having the siding re-painted. At least 2 of my neighbors went through this process.

It does not necessarily help you unless what you have been told is true and documented (possible other lawsuits?). Seems like you should look into it and ask your inspector for additional information from other homes. Did you talk to your homeowners insurance?

That's news to me and most homes here have been sold without any issues but now one person has brought this up, I wonder if more and more buyers will refuse to buy these homes??

What exactly was the mistake made in installation? I've had some work done to my house that required siding removed then reinstalled and my contractor found no issues and they are licensed hardy installers

When I read the original post I thought the house may have been lacking a moisture barrier, similar to Tyvek. A contractor told me that wrapping a house was not code until 2004. So some builders skipped it entirely.

Our house does have a wrapping. I have pictures of it when the house was being built. It is a lot cheaper than tyvek but it is wrapped.

It's not that hard to install Hardy siding but the instructions have changed over the years to include flashing between gaps and things like that. As long as you stick to one nailing method and have the proper incline at the bottom there is not much to go wrong. Very interested to hear what the issues are from the OP.

So homes that were built in 2003 definitely do not have wrapping, you say?

Our home was built in 02-03 and is wrapped. Not in tyvek but wrapped with something else.
