Because when I first saw it when returning from work one night, it totally distracted me, making we immediately look to my left, fully expecting to be informed that something important has or would be occurring up front, such as a serious accident, construction or a road closing.

Secondly, because it ILLEGAL to stick a flashing sign like that, hooked up to a large vehicle, in the median of a road like this, for the very reason I stated above.

Thirdly, in my opinion, it's just plain disrespectful to all of us who live in this community. I'm sure that the majority of drivers driving up Claiborne that night had the same words cross their mind; what the hell were they thinking putting that sign there?!?!

Finally, sure, they sorta got the effect they wanted; we're all talking about the Steakhouse and we all know they're open for lunch. But as a member of this community, just as they have a right to advertise, I have a right to show my discontent with their actions by refusing to frequent their establishment.

The manager of the steakhouse got several calls from irate people, as well as a few folks who told him in person. The sign was still there after 3 days. To me, that's a manager who doesn't give a crap about the community, and as such, I don't give a crap about his establishment anymore.

For sure, everybody's talking about the Steakhouse - but not in the way I think the owners anticipated.

Mr. Linux: That's the slope I'm talking about. Bad Manager means bad establishment which means bad patrons. It's a good thing a State Trooper lives nearby.

As for object permanence, the tanning van never went away and I'm sure the dragon young in vehicles will still park in the premo spots by puccios.

Ok Homer, now you hit on a pet peeve of mine, those dragon buses do irk me a tad for the very reason that they do take several prime spots. I have seen the big bus take up 4 spots!

On a factual note, I wonder why they switched the message from "now open for lunch" to "now open until 2am." Maybe after the complaints the manager is targeting a different crowd with his message. Hmmm, ponder that. Direct marketing to a new target audience. Either way, the food AND the sign suck.

When I spoke to Julie Miller (property manager for Saul) about the Steakhouse sign, she also mentioned that the Dragon place had one last opportunity to remove their vehicles or they would be towed.

Ditto Mr.Linux's comments. You hit the nail on the head. That sign violates Broadlands rules, Saul Center's rules, County and VDOT law.

I think it's wonderful that we live in a community where the worst thing going on is everyone complaining about a sign. :)

i figured it was a gawdy blinky twinkly neon sign with a big "eat here" arrow. i didn't realize it was a VDOT lookin' highway type sign. I saw it in the parking lot this weekend and expected a "right lane closed ahead"--and saw "Open 11 am to 2 AM". I'm thinking---THIS IS IT?

yet no one has problems with the 14 foot inflatable snowmen i see in the neighborhood. :)

We like our two seven foot inflatable snowmen, than you very much. In fact, we've received numerous compliments since one is visible along Truro Parish. And, tacky as they may be, they are allowed.

I was also fed up with the sign. First trying to park on the shopping center grass, then on the highway, then in the parking lot.

I had enough on Thursday night and called the Sheriffs Dept. Sign and SUV were moved to the parking lot.

I agree that if the owner's do not respect the community, then I will not visit their establishment. Continued poor customer service (advertising and staff) and poor food will eventually result in lack of revenue and closure of the restaurant.

it's little things like a tacky sign that all of the sudden open the door to less and less attractive things- ever hear dof the "Tipping Point?" if we maintain a certain level of expectation from neighbors and businesses alike, with luck the Broadlands will stay as pretty and respectable as it is now...

For those of you unconcerned about the sign, please see what happened in the Oranges in Northern Jersey. It's about creep and the cheapening of the neighborhood.

It starts with a cheap sign, then the bar gets loud into 2am, the area gets trashy, the property values plummet and in twenty years it is a ghetto.

Sure this extreme, but it does happen. It doesn't happen in neighborhoods that take care of themselves. It's a slippery slope and cannot be tolerated.

Didn't someone say that the people who own the Buffalo Wing Factory bought the Steakhouse? Personally, I think the shopping center where the Buffalo Wing Factory is and the Shoppers and that place that had the stabbing a few months ago (the hookah bar) is the most ghetto shopping center in Ashburn. We don't go there. And, back to the Buffalo Wing Factory, they used to hire workers (servers) that I would consider to be of questionable character. I don't eat there, only have some personal familiarity of some of their past employees.

In my mind, there is a BIG difference between the a traffic sign being used for commercial purposes in a residential community and a little holiday cheer! =-)

Thank you Cliff for the information. I was wondering if I could call the property manager to have the sign towed because it's parked illegally - not parked properly in a parking spot. I'm also not happy with the Dragon vans. I'll wait a few days and then start calling.

Interesting the Steakhouse is open until 2am now. I'm assuming they were allowed because Clyde's is open until 2am.
