Since we lack the ability to move actual posts, I have cut and paste the entire page into here. Apologies in advance if it looks bad this way, but it's the only way to keep the thread on track.

    Homer,

I'm sorry that you have such an issue with our rules and how we moderate. Please by all means feel free to talk to the HOA to voice your opinion on changing these rules if you would like. Like Cliff stated before, 'This is a "public" forum on a privately owned website'. The Broadlands has a lot of rules that everyone needs to follow. You can't paint your house bright green with purple polka dots. You can't put certain types of fences up. You can't do certain types of landcaping in your yard. You can't leave trashcans out on the sidewalk - the list goes on. The HOA 'moderates' that as well. As for here, we don't have many rules as of this post. No offensive user names. You can't post contact information of minors. No advertisements unless arroved. Only one account per person. Be kind.

    Thanks,

    John (hornerjo)

Please! The HOA can't even enforce cleaning up dog mess. The issue here is that you were wrong about it being a personal attack. It wasn't. You keep sidestepping that issue. I don't have issues with what you posted as moderating items but you did not list personal attacks.

Calling another user stupid is a childish personal attack and is not needed on our forums - and thus it was moderated. I've explained that already. Again, if you have an issue with how we moderate feel free to approach the HOA.

As for the HOA not enforcing cleaning up dog mess, I'm right on with you on that. Not exactly sure what they can do about it, however.

    Thanks,

    John

Ahh! But they didn't call the user stupid. It's not like they said Joe User is stupid. Or you are stupid. They said an action was stupid. There is a difference. No person in this forum was directly called anything in that post. That's where my problem is. And if you enforce this are you going to enforce it when Bee calls homosexuals immoral or evil? Under the same criteria you would also have to edit "they were stupid for running the stop sign at broadlands/claiborne and hitting someone". I'm done with this for now. I suggest that we move heated topics off this forum onto an alternative broadlands forum when they hit a certain threshold and put a link to it in the post. Would that be acceptable?

Nope, he did not say the action was stupid. That's what I said was ok. You can post that the action is stupid. The user had said that the actual poster doing that action was stupid - and thus was moderated. It's childish and is really not needed here.

    Thanks,

    John

Well we agree to disagree and there's nothing wrong with a healthy debate. And since the original post is gone I can't argue this since I don't remember the exact verbage.

As far as the HOA for not being able to enforce issues (such as dog poop), please think of our position in trying to enforce this. I'll give a few examples:

    1) We get a call from a resident stating they saw a person allow a dog to poop on the sidewalk. They don't know who the person is, where they live, or how we can find them. How do we enforce it?

    2) A person sees the same situation and gives us the name of the dog owner. The offender denies the claim, and says it must have been someone else. The person that made the complaint refuses to be named or allow the HOA to use them as a witness to the offense. You'd be amazed at how many complaints we get where the complainant refuses to allow the HOA to use them as a witness. We have no enforcement capability with a "he said, she said" complaint.

Sounds like the voice of frustration.... Got any takers on the enforcement committee yet?

No, I'm not actually. I find that most people shrink from confrontation. If I ever catch someone's dogs pooping on my lawn they're going to know about it. But it's also sad that I saw that a townhouse adjacent to a common area had to post it's own sign about the problem.
