Before the four-way stop was installed there were several accidents at that intersection. I remember one vividly that involved a minivan.

Before? I see accidents there all the time still. At least 2 a month.

Talked to Mark Holliday at the HOA Board Meeting today, he said there was a State or VDOT rule that the lights can't start blinking before Monday, that's if they have all the other parts in place.

The reason is that you have to start them during a work week, and not on a weekend. Something about not surprising anyone with a light that wasn't there before.

Of course, the argument would be that its an all way stop now, so the blinking red lights aren't going to change anything. True, but the rule does not give any sort of exception, so ... there you go.

I'm with you. I've seen a definite need for the light at Broadlands/Claiborne, but rarely see the cars more than 2-3 deep at Claiborne/Waxpool.

unfortuantly most controlled intersections are not about efficency.. but saving retards from each other.

That intersection you can see forever both ways without issue.. yet there were tons of accidents there. Why? incompetent drivers

Virtually all of the accidents were before the 4-way stop was put in.

we just saw a big accident last weekend at claiborne/waxpool.... car was all bashed in a spun around... guess someone didn't stop and/or look. it's a shame we have to resort to lights because of all the moron drivers around.

Hey, what happened to the other thread about jubilation for lights (If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes...). Did someone censor it, or is it just caught in a technical glitch?

I saw an accident there 2 weekends ago. Again it looked like someone just didn't stop.

The forum police (neilz) only wanted 1 traffic light thread so I guess all jubilation and wooting will have to be done here. :)

Then I guess the discussion of alternative Christmas lights can continue here under traffic lights.

No problems Neilz, thanks for making sure we all keep in line, think the right way, and live up to your expectations. I guess all the posts from the other thread were deemed unimportant and eliminated.

The traffic lights are being lowered and positioned into place at Broadlands and Claiborne this afternoon (Tuesday) but are covered in black plastic for now.

I suspect that we won't see much, if any, light from these until after Christmas.

Somehow I knew Dec 17th was too good to be true.

I haven't seen any Walk/Don't Walk lights on either intersection. I'm hoping that they just haven't had a chance to install them yet. If pedestrian crossing signals are not part of these plans, I will be highly disappointed. Does anyone know if they are planned?

I read in the local paper yesterday that there is a traffic light planned for the corner of Waxpool/Truro Parish. This is the first I've heard of it. Seems like an unnecessary place for a light, given that 95% of the traffic coming east on Waxpool Rd will turn right at that intersection to stay on Waxpool.
