    Fellow Foodies--

Our next delivery date is March 25, 2008, Tuesday between 9 am 10 am. If you are interested in joining or ordering, check with Lee Ann (contact info on previous posts on this thread). Orders are due for March 2008 by Saturday, March 15, 2008 between 12 pm and 1 pm.

The Yahoo Group forwards messages to you on updates for delivery times, etc. It is usually only about an hour to organize our orders and split cases. In all, you are at Bruin Park for about 2 hours to receive and pay for your orders. Please attend or PM if interested. This month we got an EXTRA 6% discount off our purchases, I believe. I would have to look at my order form to verify. Anyway, still a great bargain, and with fuel prices moving upward--great way to save time and money!

thepea2001--Please check us out for March 2008 ordering. Yes, you can bring Langdon (aka Lil Pea!).

    See "y'all"--

    Fellow Foodies--

Just a "nudge" regarding the UNFI Buying Club reminder. Our next drop-off at Bruin Park is Tuesday, 03/25/08 from 10 to 11 am. However, if you are interested in the details and checking us out, please arrive by 9 am to get info.

We have added 4 NEW members just this past weekend and continuously enroll new members. Currently, we have 17 members. Also, if you are unsure if you wish to commit to joining the Buying Club, we are offering a FREE GUEST PASS for you to try out the UNFI Buying Club.

Let me know here on this thread or PM me; and I will post or pass on your name, etc. to our member coordinator. The more members the larger the discounts we get. I believe that we get an additional 5 or 6 percent off what we order. I can let you know if interested the exact discount percentage.

Also, I am planning on doing some publicity and interviews with the Washington Post's Food Editors, local news outlets, newspapers, and other media outlets to "get the word out" about our Buying Club. Save money, fuel, and time--check us out!

For you mothers with infants, toddlers, etc., you can bring your kids. Great Organic products and great foods to order! Definitely good eats!

    Fellow Foodies--

Just "bumping" this thread for all you "newbies" to the Buying Club concept. We now are being offered a 10% VOLUME DISCOUNT off our TOTAL ORDERS as a Buying Club through United Foods starting with April's orders. As a Buying Club, our current Volume Discount for members as a group was 6% off our total order. The more members the greater the discounts.

Please feel free to check us out; and we will answer your inquiries tomorrow at our pick-up at Bruin Park in Herndon between 9 am to 11 am. Great info and people to work with. I have met some of the members who recently joined from the Broadlands Forum. Great people and easy to order from United Foods.

    See ya--

    Fellow Foodies--

Just got back from our pick-up at our United Foods Buying Club today. Just wanted to remind "y'all" of the Buying Club if you are interested--just post on this thread or PM me. Some people from Broadlands are also participating in the Buying Club and loves it! Way cheaper and better that other grocers.

We now receive close to 12 to 15 percent off our purchases as a member(s). Also, on a sidenote, some Club members have asked us if we would also consider a Cooperative/Buying Club for Dairy, Meats, and Produce. Yes, we are looking at that option also. Our farm would contribute some produce and our contacts with other farmers in PA, VA, and MD could also provide other products (i.e. Dairy, Seafood/Fish, Meats, and Produce, Eggs, etc.). I will post info a separate thread for info.

    Have fun--

I just wanted to second what Foodie said about the UNFI Buying Club. I've been in the buying club for over a year because I buy a lot of organic products. There are also many products that I can't find at the local store, or even Whole Foods. I've tried many new things too.

To give more details about how exactly this buying club works, you place an order monthly for items you want. You can either get whole case of something, or split cases with other members. I'd say about 70% of our groups order is split cases. You do all your ordering online, in fact, they have a huge catalog, approx. 180 pages online. Then, you pick up your order with the rest of the group in Herndon every 4 weeks. You "work the truck". By truck, I mean an 18 wheeler. We help unload and sort the order. Then you pay and you're on your way. It usually takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs at the park.

Our group spends about $4000 a month, after all discounts. The more we spend, the higher our discount. Right now, we're at 13%. The discounts go up to at least 25%, but I'm not sure how much a group has to spend to get that discount.

We use certain items at our truck delivery, such as plastic bags for seperating bulk items, pens, etc, so there is a $15 fee to join. Also, you pay a $100 deposit at the beginning. This $100 is given back to you if you leave the group. It's only in case someone doesn't pay for some weird reason, like an emergency came up and they had to go out of town, or something like that. This is just so, as a group, we have enough money in the account to cover their order.

I also think it's fun to do, more social than going to a grocery store. There's also no impulse buying, which is nice. Of course, I still have to go to the grocery store, but not as much.

PM me too if you want the membership person in our group to send you information. They'll actually give you a pass to get on the website so you can play around with ordering and seeing what is available.

Edited to add: One thing I forgot. Our group is in the top 250 groups nationwide, so every month we get extra specials that are discounted up to 40%, although I have seen a few 50%.

I'd like to see items and prices .. it's gotta be online, right? I read something about 200-page physical catalogs... that's not very "green" =)

Yeah, I agree, it isn't "green"--:). You can PM us; and we can let the membership coordinator now your interest (or not??) and obtain a "free trial pass" to go online at United Natural Foods' web site. Then you will be able to view the catalog online for prices, etc.

Online ordering is done by item number or description. Part of your membership fees goes to have a monthly catalog mailed directly to you with the sales for the month and other specials. Great prices also.

    Fellow Foodies--

Now that school is a week away, I just thought I would mention again about the UNFI Buying Club. We have our pick-up delivery date next Tuesday, 09/08/09 at 9 am or so at Bruin Park in Herndon, VA. We are usually finished by 11 or 11:30 am. It is great for money-savings for groceries and organic products.

If you are unfamiliar with Buying Clubs/Cooperatives, please read the previous posts for further information and details. Feel free to PM me if interested. We order online and you can also request a paper catalog to have a hard copy to order from. It is a great way to save time and money on your food and other grocery items.

We have some members who live in Broadlands join within the last year. So it is convenient and fun too. So come by and check us out or PM for further details.

    Have fun--

    Foodie;)

    Fellow Foodies--

I have had numerious inquiries regarding the UNFI Buying Club and how to obtain further details and/or information about joining and participation in the pick-up and ordering process.

First of all, for those of you interested, just go to Yahoo.com and choose their Yahoo Groups section and type in Herndon United. That is the Yahoo Group for the UNFI Buying Club. Just send a query to the group and mention your interests and question and/or concerns.

We will be out of town for the whole month of October 2009; so I won't be participating for October's deliveries.

Anymore questions--just PM or ask the Yahoo Group for UNFI. The NEXT pick-up date is 10/06/09 at Bruin Park in Herndon, VA. Perhaps you can check it out there--it is better to PM the Yahoo Group first for details.
