can not speak for Cingular but we have been very happy with Verizon for the past 6-7 years or so. Cannot remember last time we had a dropped call or dead zone?

coverage for either is fine.. its dealing with the draconian practices of verizon that are the issue.

cingular gives you freedoms.. verizon points a gun to you.

We have cingular and have been pleased with it. The only time I notice not getting a signal is on a stretch of Rt. 50 (near the intersection of Rt. 15).

I've been with Verizon since '98. i have an issue getting coverage in my house, but it's my P.O.S. phone...b/c my wife doesn't have any problems, and we're on the family plan. My phone also doesn't get any coverage in the Verizon Center in DC--go figure. :)

One nicety with Verizon, if you're a metro rider, Verizon is the only phone that works in the tunnels of DC. was great when my wife commuted to DC everyday.

I wish Verizon would incorporate the "rollover" minutes i hear about with cingular, but i don't usually have that many left over anyway. we're probably verizon for life.

Cingular is the only cell phone company we have ever liked. Love the rollover minutes and they actually have worked with us when we've needed to adjust minutes. Coverage has been excellent everywhere, except when I want to drop a call ;)

yes.. key point! cingular doesn't keep restarting the clock on your commitment like verizon does.. cingular lets you move up and down at will (usually there is just a minimum threshold for most discount things.. like plan greater then $39, etc)

verizon doesn't let you do virtually anything without renewing your contract. weasles

yeah i think the whole commitment thing is lame...but i figure, i'm not going anywhere and i like the coverage all over the country by verizon. I do hate the people in the verizon wireless stores.

ugh.. the stores a whole other topic. Impossible to get help at.. might as well plan to spend an hour or two at most of them :(

Verizon's also sticking to CDMA means you don't have as many phone choices compared to other carriers. Its much easier to even pickup an unlocked phone and just put it on Cingular.

I had verizon since back when it was Bell Atlantic Mobile.. and recently switched to Cingular. I don't miss Verizon, their network, their phones, or their stupid tatics one bit!

I believe Verizon is the only one that has service inside the Metro tunnels.

I highly recommend the Cingular store on Route 7 near Countryside. Make sure you go to the right one, there are two in the area. The one I am referring is in the same strip mall as Borders. Excellent service, know their products, and know how to work a deal within the system.

The Cingular store over by CVS in Ashburn is very good. Only been there a couple times - but were very helpful and knowledgeable as well.

note.. the one in Sterling by borders is a COMPANY store. The other ones closer by are 'authorized retailers'. I believe brambleton is a company store as well.

What's the difference between "company" and "authorized"

in a company store, you are dealing with cingular reps directly.. and cingular return policies, etc. In an 'authorized retailer' its just a reseller, who has their own policies and may not have access to do all the same steps a company store may have.

For instance, I had a problem with an order on the website, I had notes added to my account so from the company store they could give me the help with my order. The retailer may not have done the same.

It's just a middle-man thing.. but sometimes the retailers may have better phone deals

I have always found the company store a million times better especially for Sprint. I have been able to get a new phone free of charge when it was damaged by me. The other stores looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for such a thing. I can go on and on at the differences especially with sprint. Besides you can go to the headquarters in Reston when the company store on rare occasions can't help you. I had a serious court case going on and needed phone records immediately the store and the people on line or by phone could not help but customer service at the headquarters got me what I needed in a couple of hours. These records were used in court in a way that a very large law firm (the opposing sides)and the judge never heard used in that way. After an hour of going through law books during the trial the judged allowed them. It proved the other side including their lawyers in this 700 person law firm were liars or at the very least the worst memories on the planet. ha ha
My wife on the stand explaining the phone records was definitely a Perry Mason moment!!!!! Very shocked and depressed looks on the other sides faces when she got finished with them, then it was my turn... ha ha ha Thank god my big mouth did not destroy what Dalyn accomplished. ;)

Long story short we won the case in a big way with the help of these records and I told Sprint marketing they should use this in a commercial. Maybe one day they will. ha ha ha :D Yes I am a fan of sprint and they have great service where I use my cell.

Cinco Di Mayo happy hour coming very very soon soon!!!!!

When signing up for cell service, the speed in which they respond to a subpoena for phone records is at the top of my list.

It was not before, but it is now ha ha ha :D

Especially when a lot of money is involved. ;)

Besides that, I have been very happy with sprint for the last ten years. It works from my home so well, that we don't need land lines anymore. I will say if you spend a lot of time in the country part of Loudoun you might want another company. Although sprint seems to be getting better coverage out there all the time..

I will add we did not need a subpoena which the judge ruled and made this even more unusual and dramatic in court. We won so strongly the other very wealthy side side never appealed even tho there was an large amount of money involved. What I learned in winning lawsuits you need to personally do a tremendous amount of work and time is involved. The time line and money trail are extremely important. As an attorney friend always tells me take the money out of it and there is no lawsuit. Rarely does someone sue to personally make a statement if there is no financial reward.

I think the moral of the story is: nobody cares.
