Send Your Senators a Handwritten Letter Asking them to Vote for the Climate Security Act

A handwritten letter is one of the most powerful ways you can let your decision makers know you care about an issue and want them to care too.

With a Climate Security Act vote on the horizon in June in the U.S. Senate, now is the time to go the extra mile and mail your senators a message supporting this important wildlife conservation bill.

Please mail your letters to the National Wildlife Federation so we can hand deliver them to your Senator before the bill is voted on in early June. If you send it directly to Capitol Hill your letter might not make it in time due to their mail screening process.

Tips on Writing a Letter to Your Senator:

    1. Start your letter with "Dear Senator [Last Name],"

Warner, John- (R - VA) Class II
225 RUSSELL SENATE OFFICE BUILDING WASHINGTON DC 20510

    Webb, Jim- (D - VA) Class I
144 RUSSELL SENATE OFFICE BUILDING WASHINGTON DC 20510

    2. Ask your senator to support the Climate Security Act (S. 2191).

    3. Tell one reason YOU are concerned about global warming. (Have you seen changes due to global warming? Are you worried about your child/grandchild's future? What wildlife do you care about?).

    4. Ask your senator for a response, and include your address.

    5. Address the envelope to:

The Honorable [Insert Your Senator's Full Name]
    c/o National Wildlife Federation
    Attn: Grassroots Action Department
    11100 Wildlife Center Dr.
    Reston, VA 20190

O - he is saying that there are many who are not yet convinced that global warming is a man-made phenomenon.

I'm not saying we don't contribute, but not anywhere near the levels that the fear mongers are claiming. No, contrary to what some preach as scripture - I don't believe that the science is settled. And I certainly am not in favor of what is in this bill!

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for pollution control and doing our fair share to keep the environment clean. But this bill is too far-reaching. To meet the emission reduction targets in S. 2191, U.S. per capita emissions would have to fall by 50 percent from 2000 to 2030. That's crazy at a time of population growth. The technology is not here yet. I wish it were.

And don't even get me started on the fiasco that is cap-and-trade. All you have to do is look at the European Union to see that their system is not meeting emisson targets (as predicted) and has resulted in a corrupt and artificial trading system.

This bill is all about politics and reduces America's competitiveness at a time when we can least afford it. (Just my opinion)

Ditto! Thanks for posting so I don't have to. I am tired of asking people to use their brains instead of reacting to hype based on emotion.

I will make sure I write to my Senators asking them to vote AGAINST this harmful and reckless legislation. The last thing we need is politicians creating more disastrous results (see people starving to death due to unintended consequences of ethanol mandates).

yeah, and "people starving to death due to unintended consequences of ethanol mandates" isn't fear-mongering =)

Ha ha! Just thought I'd give the alarmists a bit of their own medicine. How do you like that, Boomer?! Gore says it's okay to lie and exaggerate because the ends justify the means. Wish you held your alarmist friends to the same standard :)

But check the facts. We diverted food into making ethanol, prices for a core staple in poor countries skyrocketed...and yes, people are starving to death and rioting in other countries.

With the polar bear now listed as threatened, if we assume that human induced climate change is the cause, how much are each of us willing to change our energy consumption to protect this species? If it meant that you had to keep your house a few degrees warmer in the summer and a few degrees cooler in the winter, would you do it? Or alternatively, if a cap and trade system meant your utility bill increased by $50/month, would you be in favor?

You won't solve this one by just buying a Prius to park in front of your lightly insulated, but climate controlled 3000+ sq ft home.

If someone can scientifically prove to me the percentage of global climate change that is caused by man, as compared to natural solar conditions and CO2 levels caused by non-man-made forces (volcanic eruptions, for example), sure, I'd pitch in to help.
But all we have so far are anectodal evidence, politics and fear to go on, so I think I'll pass.
