    Sr. Spacecraft Engineer, Vehicle Design, Development, and Testing Standards

    Description:

    The Mission Assurance (MA) team supports NRO's Director of Systems Engineering and Mission Success Executive (MSE) in implementing an effective Mission Assurance program based on a system of policies, standards, checks and balances, and independent assessment. Mission Assurance provides expertise, tools, and analysis of nation security space acquisition technical risk elements and potential impacts to performance, cost, and schedule specifically related to contractor application of NRO Mission Assurance Standards to design, development, and testing.

    Duties:
    • Lead development, documentation, review, and maintenance of Mission Assurance Standards Baseline applied to NRO acquisition activities.
    • Identify technical risks impacting cost, schedule, and performance baselines in development, manufacturing, production, and integration of critical components, subsystems, and systems related to implementation of mission assurance standards.
    • Facilitate coordination between Acquisition Offices and MSE on profiles, assessments, and resolution of discrepancies.
    • Remain cognizant of cross-program mission assurance experiences; fosters cross-flow of information with other NRO components, Government agencies, and industrial partners; participate in review and update of the NRO standards baseline.
    • Review technical design, interface, and test artifacts to follow mission assurance standards risks and issues through to closure.
    • Contribute to focused internal reviews - peer and formal reviews - leading up to readiness and acquisition milestones/events.
    • Perform systematic review and assessment of compliance with mission assurance standards for near-, mid-, and long-term developments supporting milestone reviews, acquisition reviews, and manufacturing.

    Experience:
    • ~10 years experience with space vehicle acquisition, development, and/or integration and test mandatory.
    • Direct experience in applying MIL-STND, best practices, IEEE/AIAA/Aerospace technical standards or similar to design, development, and/or test activities mandatory.
    • 4 years hands-on engineering experience with space system design/development in one or more of the following areas desired
    o Space vehicle sensors, secondary payloads, and software
    o Spacecraft bus, vehicle interfaces, and associated hardware and software
    o Space vehicle integration and test
    • Track record of engaging and collaborating with space acquisition organizations at all levels with increasing levels of responsibility
    • Empirically assess technical data quickly based on hands-on technical experience
    • Flexibility and adaptability to work multiple projects simultaneously (required)
    • Ability to accomplish responsibilities autonomously (required)

    Education: B.S. Engineering/Physics (required), M.S./Ph.D. in Engineering/Physics (desired)

    Communication/Interpersonal Skills:
    • Candidate should have the communication skills (oral and written) to convey a summary of technical assessments in a clear and concise manner to technical peers, non-technical professional laypersons, and senior management
    • Candidate should be capable of productively and collegially interacting with diverse, multi-functional teams
    • Commitment to recognize, understand, respect, and operate effectively within various SETA, FFRDC, and Government lines of authority
    • Proven proactive team/consensus builder (required)

    Clearances: TS/SCI cleared at SI and TK
