or is it a tweet? I recently started messing around with twitter and wonder who else finds it interesting! none of the community and conversation that a message board offers, but if you are following someone who interests you- it's kinda fun! I follow Lightfoot to read the delicious daily specials and a few fellow "Wineaux"...

who else is a twit around here?

I have been called a twit before, but I don't use Twitter, nor any other SN. :)

Mr. Linux created a cool "LoudounAlert" tweet. I follow that one as well as few others.

It's actually "LoudounAlerts" -- Note the plural Alerts

I'm actually pulling the official alerts from the Loudoun County Alert System, formatting it and pushing it out through that Twitter account. For many folks, receiving a small Tweet on their phone or email is easier than the full fledged system.

I'm doing this as a public service and it is NOT AN OFFICIALLY SANCTIONED feed from Loudoun County. If you depend on timely, accurate and official information, by all means use the official email-based alert system.

If you're interested in seeing the types of Tweets sent through the LoudounAlerts I have setup on Twitter, you can see them here:

    http://twitter.com/LoudounAlerts

Feel free to 'Follow' the account to receive the Tweets.

I will not use twitter. I mean do I care what someone ater for breakfast or that they just had a shower? I would rather not have something else take up my preciuos time. Most of the folks I know feel the same way.

That's interesting; every person I talk to who says they are not on Twitter use the same example. Yet, out of the 20-30 people I follow, I have yet to see any stuff like that.

With Twitter, YOU choose who you want to follow. If someone is posting annoying stuff, you just don't follow them. I get HUGE amounts of great information from Twitter on a daily basis. Remember that small earthquake on the west coast a few weeks ago? I found out about it from my twitter feed a good 20 minutes before the first media report. I get keen insight from folks in my industry who see, read or do things that are an important source of information for me. As a techie, I need to be exposed to a lot of information on a daily basis, just to keep up with everything. Twitter does that for me.

I'm not saying Twitter is for everyone, but most folks who discount it and then use it for a week or two tend to change their minds rather quickly as to the value it can have. It all comes down to who you choose to follow...

what app do you use? For me, I follow a few people, but I don't get why it's so popular... it's a lot of useless info for me, but entertaining sometimes if I'm bored =)

It's stupid that it's "worth" billions...for something so simple. *shrug*

i can do it on my google phone... i agree there is a TON of useless chatter BUT if you are following someone who had updates you need- a sale on something you want, a wine coming into stock, a band playing a venue you love- it's a nice one stop shop!

well, i admit i am not into all things techie. I do not even have internet enabled on my phone - as a way to keep the bill down. Everything I do online is with my laptop on my desk.

Boomer, I use a variety of clients depending on where I am, etc.

During the day, I use a Firefox addon called TwitterFox that integrates everything into a small icon on the bottom of my browser. On my iPhone, I use Twittelator. This client has a great feature which enables me to instantly post a link to Google Maps with my precise location. I'm on a travel assignment right now up in West Chester, PA. On fridays when I drive back home, I post my location to my Twitter feed a few times; let's my wife track my progress heading home. This client also let's you take a picture on your iPhone and automatically upload it and insert a link into your Tweet. If I see something newsworthy, I can take a picture and instantly let all my followers have access to it/see it. Yea, I'm a geek ;)

At home, I use a combination of Twitterfox and TweetDeck, depending on if I'm at my desk or on the MacBook Pro. TweetDeck is VERY cool, and enables me to have live searches of Tweets as they occur over the Twitterverse.

I'm cheap, so all of these are free. There's a 'pro' version of Twittelator, but I don't have a need for the added features it has.

Links to the clients I use:

    TwitterFox - http://twitterfox.net/
    TweetDeck - http://www.tweetdeck.com/
    Twittelator - http://www.stone.com/Twittelator/

    I'm a twit ... http://twitter.com/Incindi.

I don't update my tweet all that often, it is for me more about the people I follow.

    I'm on it. twitter.com/baywatchboy

I use Tweetie on my iPhone. It's one of the few applications I've actually paid for and I love it. I use Twitterdeck but am trying Tweetie for Mac on my laptop.

do these apps make it so that if you tweet on twitter, you tweet shows up on say, your facebook account? so you only have to tweet in one place to have it show up on your other networking sites?

That's actually an application on Facebook. Do a search on Facebook for Twitter and you will find it. Once you have that active, then once you update your Twitter, regardless of the method, your Facebook will update. Your FB will update with original tweets. If you @reply to someone's tweet, then that will not show up on FB.

I know a number of people who do this and it save the hassle of posting things twice. Most people I know who don't use don't so they can keep things seperate.
