We are planning a trip to NYC for Spring Break and are going to see a couple of shows. We would like to see Wicked, but have read the warning that it may be scary for kids under 8. We have a 6 1/2 year old daughter. My question is for anyone who has seen this musical. What exactly, without ruining the story line is "scary"? Is it visually scary or is it more that the story line is scary, or both. Any input would be appreciated.

Well, I'd say it **can** be visually scary at times. If it's like they did at the Kennedy Center the stage opening is framed by a giant mechanical dragon that move s at one point in the story. As I recall there are some spots where Elphaba acts like the scary witch she's supposed to be. But I do not recall anything that freaked out the audience. Our daughter was 10? (Brassy?) when we saw it ans she loved it.

We have seen the NY Broadway production and it is terrific! When we saw it my daughter was about 6-7 years old as well and she loved it. I did prep her that there would be "flying monkeys" as that is what is talked about as often a little scary to young ones. The comings and goings with dramatic smoke may scare some too but overall I don't think it is too scary. I know for my daughter, just discussing beforehand that they are actors in costumes helped her alot. It didn't detract from her enjoyment realizing that they are just actors either--she loved it! Have fun!

Thanks for the advice. Just got our tickets! Going to see Shrek the Musical as well. Let you know how that one is. Has anyone seen it? Sutton Foster plays Fiona. Can't wait!

Wicked is by far my all time favorite musical and I would highly recommend it if you visit NYC. Although it's not intended to be scary, I agree that it could be visually scary, but no scarier than the movie Wizard of Oz. There are just a couple times when the scenes are darker and the music is more intense, but that's about it. Have a wonderful time!!!

We have tickets for Wicked in April and I have heard nothing but great things about it. I'm glad everyone here seems to concur.

April 21. We're empty nesters so we don't have to work around vacations.
