We had a wren establish a nest in one of our trees and we've been watching the mom sit on the eggs for some time now and we've been checking in to make sure everything is ok pretty much every day. Sometime in the last day the babies hatched and two of the three have fallen from the nest. The babies do not look to be harmed from the fall. The mom is still around as we just saw her sitting in a tree a bit away making a lot of noise. It looks like she didn't make the nest big enough for all three.

I know that you can't touch the babies with your hands but is there anything we can do? Should we attempt to get the babies back in the nest or should we just let nature take it's course. :( The poor things look so hungry.

    Thanks

If you can get them back in the nest do so.
All wildlife rehab sites indicate the parents will not abandon them.

That's what I was reading as well. I went ahead and put them back in the nest and we watched the mom come back to the nest and sit on them. I just checked on them again after dinner and all three look to be back in the nest and are not looking hungry.

We got some pictures of the bitty babies. the first two are where we found them on the ground. Needless to say we were sad to see them down there after checking on them for so many days. You can see how small they are in my hands in the rest of the pictures. Thank goodness neither was hurt from the fall. While mom was angry with us for being near the nest I she ran right to them as soon as we walked away putting the two small ones back.

Here's the last of the pics. The final pic is of them reunited in the nest with their sibling. Last I checked on them tonight they were all still in the nest and were not looking hungry :partydance2:

How tiny and helpless they are.....I'm so glad you were able to help them back into the nest. Thanks for doing that.

It's a myth that the human smell will keep the parents from the babies.

I'm happy to report that all three babies are still in the nest and mom is diligently caring for them. They looks so different today then they did 2 days ago.
