We're going to Wolftrap next week but due to schedules will not have time to plan and pack our own picnic/food. Anyone use the on-site caterer and/or have any other recommendations? I realize that Wegmans is an option but I'm hoping the on-site caterer gets rave reviews because that would be soooo easy.

I realize this isn't "on-site", but we've been using Spicy Pickle for WolfTrap picnic food. We've used Wegman's also, but Spicy Pickle is a nice alternative.

Spicy Pickle is great- so is Cafe Rumi.

I have not done the picnics..but have eaten at Ovations on the Wolftrap grounds. :shakehead: As long as the picnics are not prepared by them, you should be fine.

I've not gotten a picnic there myself but from what I hear it is underwhelming and expensive.

South Street Under does dinners you can pick up. I'm sure you could make it into a picnic depending on what they're serving that day.

I used to work there and we always went to the grocery store and picked up the premade sandwiches at the deli and some sides. It was easy, good and a lot less expensive.

I would recommend supporting local business Cafe Rumi. Their sandwhiches and salads are just wonderful, hold up well if you're buying ahead, and are very affordable. Also have very nice desserts that would be great with some wine at a picnic.

thanks all, off to Wilco tonight. Depending on where we are, I think we'll go with either Rumi or Wegman's versus the on-site providers.

Chiming in a little late, but we ordered one of WT's pre-made picnics about 4 years ago. Very mediocre and very expensive. You'll do much happier doing your own thing. Enjoy your outing!
