This is the month when all women have to take a history class.. no.. .that's not right.

We are now in “Woman’s History Month”. While this is a relatively new holiday, it has a history of celebrations that have grown.

It all started with a day…

International Working Woman’s Day was first celebrated in 1909.

Everything was going great. So great that in 1981, Congress promulgated that a day was simply not enough and proclaimed Woman’s History Week.

Due to inflation and other factors, this was upped to “Woman’s History Month” in 1987.

The United Nations, always interested in doing things in a big way, proclaimed 1975 to be the International Woman’s Year. And further more designated 1976-1985 to be the United Nations Decade for Women. Yikes! A decade! That is one long celebration (and a whole lotta flowers!)

There is no word on the possibility of an International Century for Woman, but the 21st century is still young.

So what better way to celebrate Woman’s History Month than with a trivia question.

What high level government position has been traditionally always been appointed to a woman starting since the Korean War (Specifically since 1949)?

Hint: This position is older than the department which contains the position.

Not bad but since the Korean War there have been 17 Secretaries of Labor and only 6 of them have been women.

    But good thinkin :)

    Ding another winner!

Martha Washington is the only woman whose "picture" has appeared on the obverse of a US paper currency

Her face graced the $1 Silver Certificate of 1886 and 1891

She also appeared on the reverse of the $1 Silver Certificate of 1896.

    Good job!

Ok, clearly we have some smart people on this forum so we need to move this up a notch.

This next Woman's History Month trivia question is a little tricky so read carefully.

Who was the first woman to run for the office of President of the United States?

Running for office being defined as BOTH

    1. Being nominated by a political party at their convention AND

    2. Being constitutionally eligible to hold the office of President of the United States.

    Name dat girl!

    Ding! Another winner!

Man I gotta find harder trivia questions.

Lockwood ran for president in 1884 and 1888 on the ticket of the National Equal Rights Partyand was the first woman to appear on official ballots.

    Most excellent.

Do you know who was the first woman to run for the office of President of the United States who, while nominated by her party was NOT constitutionally eligible to hold office?

Name dat girl and why she was not eligible.

<scurrying off to find some harder trivia. Youse guys is too smart>

Lemme see if I can defeat you and the google!

Which came first in the United States.

    1) A woman Dentist (defined as graduating from a dental college and accepted in a national dental association)

    2) A woman Lawyer (defined as being accepted into the bar)

    Name dat girl!
