It looks like they have signed Morton's, Maggiano's, Mccormick & Schmicks and PJ Chang's though! (along with 1,800 homes and 3 million sq. ft. of office space!!!!!!!!)

Yes it is better then the proposed sprawl developments for western loudoun in the fact it will contain housing working and shopping all at one location so there can be less dependence on the auto. It will also help connect the infursctruction.Much better then taking land from the western side when there is plenty of land in the eastern side to build. The taxes from these urban cores are far more then what a sprawl housing development will bring.
Also people that live there are less likely to have as many children as the sprawl developments so less money needed for schools.
Lets finish one part of the county before we go and gobble up another part and create even more problems.

My feeling is we should fill in the eastern part of the county before we create more of the same problems out west.

However - it's going to be just like the Reston Town Center, with expensive restaurants......cars, people, traffic...crime....goes on and on.......We moved from Reston to Ashburn because it was getting to crowded......

The one saving grace is that its off of a 6 lane stretch of Route 7, and the 4 lane (when finished) Loudoun Parkway.

The downside, it won't be anywhere close to the proposed Metro expansion. However, if the County institutes a good shuttle, people may actually use the train.

    (yeah right ... :( )

To be honest I really don't find the traffic around Reston to be as bad as around here most of the time.

I actually kind of agree with Lee on this one. It's not the most desirable location (it probably would have been better if it were situated closer to the proposed Dulles Metro) but it's certainly not the worst. And there are some road improvements going in before it will be completed - LC Parkway, Claiborne extension and Gloucester is proposed to cut though at some point. Something like this brings jobs - lots of them. More jobs = more people = more demand for housing = continued appreciation in the market. In addition it will be nice to have job opportunities in a place that doesn't require a toll road to get to there.

I don't know if there are already plans for this, but if the World Trade Center does go in as planned along with other neighboring developments it would really help traffic in the whole area to build an interchange at Waxpool and LCP. I wonder if the BOS can get any proffers out of the developers to go towards this. Eventually there will be plenty of lights on LCP as Moorefield Station and Loudoun Station are built up so anything that can be done to eliminate lights like the Rt. 28 project would go a long way towards improving traffic around Ashburn.

If it went in, there would be an interchange at Rt 7 and LCP (something like $25M from developers), which is one of the key reasons it has some BOS support. Route 7 is in serious need of other interchanges as well. Loudoun County is awful during rush hour, even with 3 lanes.

LCP will also be 6 lanes one day and the right of way is already there. I agree an interchange at waxpool and lcp should go in and proffers for that from nearby future development would be excellent, but I don't expect it in my lifetime.

One of the interesting things about Reston was it was originally designed so that people could live close to their jobs. It was part of the fundamental plan of the community.

The three fundamental concepts of Reston are:
    1) People should be able to live near the place where they work if they want to.
    2) Housing should be available for all income groups if they wish to live and work in the same community.
    3) Diverse cultural, religious, educational, and recreational facilities should be an integral part of the community.

Check out this old brochure from the 60s that has some more information about the vision of Reston.

Is there also going to be some sort of "Reston Town Center" in the Brambleton area or would this proposed WTC be it?

Not that I know of, however, the shopping area there was set up to be within 'walking' distance (supposedly) with the movie theater, etc.

When I bought in Brambleton our town center was described as being like Reston Town Center but not as tall. The town center is divided into a daily needs section (Phase One), which has Harris Teeter, and lifestyle section (Phase Two). Phase Two will have a movie theater (which is slated to open in November), restaurants, a bookstore, shops, and offices. It's also supposed to have an ice rink like Reston. Other than the movie theater, there's been no specifics on what specific restaurants and shops are slated as tenants. You can check out Madison Retail Group's web site (www.madisonretailgroup.com/main.htm) to see the site plan. The site plan for Phase One was recently updated and the page for Phase One has information on the alignment of the Tri-County Parkway/Rte. 659 realigned.

Also, for info on the shopping center planned for Moorefield Station, check out www.shopmoorefieldstation.com.

Phew. Can we just hold of on "Fairfaxing" Eastern Loudoun for awhile. I do not like the western creep, either...but what're you gonna do. Population increase means more people and more houses. We plan to Hike outta here in 2 years and build a place where the peeps actaully know your business and give a hoot about keeping up freindships, reciprocating dinners, etc.
