Fair enough and I can see your point.

Re-read Donna's post that states "we" not "I". Yes she is free to have her opinion on brmc - however when she post include:

Folks should balance it out with she works for LHC/Inova.

I believe the "we" Donna is referring to is the group of like minded residents who share her opinion. Shouldn't she be able to express the opinions of a group to which she belongs?

and the personal attacks on her should really stop. she's a resident who gets involved in making this community a safer place- we haven't seen near as many issues since she took over the neighborhood watch. how many of you who are attacking her are on the board or heading a committee?

she lives here, has a family here, and is entitled to her opinions on controversial issues regardless of what board position she holds, just like Cliff and everyone else. she has a right to earn a living and she has disclosed that she works FOR Inova- OF COURSE she'll fight for them!

and by the way- everyone is entitiled to thier own opinions but not their own FACTS, so stop assuming that everything someone says is a malicious lie when it could simply be an opinion, and vice versa. manners seem to go out the door when things get heated- let;s all revert to our lessons in kindergarten and speakly KINDLY to each other! :)

It's a valid fight people- let's just make it a clean one. off my soap box now... sorry- i just can't stand rude "e"muscles...

Exactly - the pre-notions here totally skew people's interpretations of her posts. I don't think I've ever seen Donna post as a spokesperson of INOVA here on the site or outside her personal opinions. It shouldn't be a crime to take a job that meshes with your personal opinions. In fact, most people would prefer that when looking for a job. Donna has acted as an organizer on this topic for YEARS and certainly has the right to speak as 'we' for the people she has organized.

I may not agree with Donna - but I have the courtesy to acknowledge the passion she has for the topic is her own - not as a paid pumper.

    Subject: Phone Polls/Survey for BRMC

    Megan,

Over the course of a few weeks our community has recieved calls concerning Broadlands Regional Medical Center and I am wondering if HCA or BRMC is behind or has authorized these "survey" calls?

The caller ID shows two ways (so far) 571-000 or 703-000...when asked who "they" are calling from usually the call is abruptly disconnected.

Some of the question asked in the survey are

    * Have you heard about the proposed hospital in Broadsdale?
    * Do you support it?
    * What is your age group (followed by a listing of groups)
    * Number of children under age 18 in the house?
    * How long have you lived in your house?

Could you please confirm if HCA is currently calling and if so does this sevice know that it is Broadlands and not Broadsdale?

    Thanks

What will be interesting is when whatever party behind these calls attempts to use the statistics 'publicly'. Then we'll know who was behind the calls, at which time we can all voice our anger with them, and the way the survey is being conducted, etc.

Either way, whoever is behind the calls is probably doing more bad for their side than good.

Of course, this all depends on if the 'data' they gather is 'positive' to their cause/agenda :rolleyes3:

I think the bodes an interesting question on the 'data' collected.

Example A - you voice support for BRMC - do you get negative propangda/fear mongering marketing, which could sway your support?

Example B - you DON'T voice support of BRMC - do you get the 'feel good' marketing from Inova?

My hunch is soon our mailboxes will be filled with targeted campaign info about the hospital debate and that may show who is really behind the calls.

something tells me they will get the word about our feelings about it on this and other quite LOUD public message boards and will mysteriously stop. UNLESS- unless- WE have no impact on whether or not the hospital is BRMC or Rt 50. if our opinion is just sputter and bluster, then they won't CARE that they are harrassing and ticking us off.

we will still get sick and still use Inova if BRMC never happens. IF it IS Inova, they should take the money they are paying that call center and use it for pro bono services for the uninsured... :)

BUT HERE'S A THOUGHT- it could be a 3rd party source also trying to gauge the NEED for a Broadlands hospital!!! who else has a dog in this fight and deep pockets?

Does it really matter? I truly believe us "mere citizens" have no say in if this hospital is going to be built or not. This is ALL about big money and the companies with high powered lawyers.

Donna was elected to the board in May of 2004. She has never made a secret of her opinion about the hospital or the fact that she works for INOVA. In her nominating petition she stated the following: "We all want a safe, beautiful and clean environment. I will do what I can to maintain that." I believe that is the reason she serves.

Yes it does matter because one day the BOS may have to vote on this and public opinion does matter them them.

And Stevens Miller is even in a tougher position because he represents both the rt 50 corridor as well as the Broadlands, so his vote could alienate a good portion of his voters voting either way. Miller is an extremely smart guy so it will be interesting how he views and handles all this and make it a win win for his constituents without losing a big chunk of his voters. In my opinion it would be simpler to vote no on the BRMC and yes to which has already been done to rt 50. I think voting no for this hospital in the broadlands would alienate less far less voters. But this is just all my opinion and just another part of a larger puzzle. So far I have been very impressed with what Miller has said at the BOS meetings and how he thinks things out. He has been very impressive so far.

I think it's great that Donna serves her community. I think it's great that she advocates for something she believes in. I don't think it's great when she resorts to what I would consider fear-mongering and playing a little loose with "facts." Just like I don't like it when BRMC folks do the same. Just want a good, clean debate.

Sorry - character assassination doesn't just float by as games and entertainment.

I think its deplorable that people here are quick to label and flat out attack other members of their community with no basis - especially those who have and continue to volunteer countless hours for the greater good of their community.

You don't have to like everything they do, or even agree with them, but the backhands and insinuations are getting disgusting.

    Relax Steve.

First, questioning one's motive for running for a psuedo-office is far from character assassination.

Second, it is somewhat germaine to me to know her reasons for running. Especially if she seeks election again in the future. It "could" have a bearing on how I and others vote.

And as I said BEFORE, I think Donna has and continues to do a good job regardless of her affiliation.

Yes, its all so innocent

If you were interested in the question, you could ask it to her directly. Instead you chose not to with some defense of 'I don't care' what the answer is. So the posing of the question is purely to instigate and infer some alternative motive. It's like throwing a stink bomb in a room and walking away whistling like you didn't have anything to do with it. Sorry, it doesn't work that way - your hands are still dirty and the intent is clear. It's down right insulting to use someone's character as a twist in your game.

This entire thing is moot - why people continue to stink it up in here is beyond me. The thread probably should have been closed ages ago.

    - The hospital is not new
    - Donna's campaigning against it is not new, and pre-dates her running for the board or her current job
    - Donna has never hid her views, unlike many who try to campaign in the area under disguise and anonymous blogs and posts
    - Donna's position was well known even when she ran for the board. It was all over this forum no less, and she was still elected through the actions of your neighbors.

Every single person who has had some 'issue' here has had amble opportunity to address it with her or the board if necessary. If people chose to not, then they should drop it.. or put their money where their mouth is.

On the topic of motive - everyone has some motive for committing to the board. Be it they want to ensure their visions of what the community should be, or they believe they can add value over what was done previously.

What is Erica's motive for accepting an appointment to the utilities commission? If Donna's motive to be on the board was to help protect her vision of what the community should be (without a hospital) then that's her choice - and I really don't see her as any different from anyone else who is motivated to do something about their convictions. What do you think her motivation is in regards to Neighborhood Watch? Or what's your motivation for volunteering for the modifications comm? Something you wanted to sneak through? Something you wanted to torpedo of an neighbor? See how ugly such questions become when you throw them out there just for 'fun'.

Well said Steve. You've captured the entire argument in one post. Now, can you put an end to this thread once and for all:happygrin:

Taking this all just a weeeee bit personal aren't you?

As for my question, I think it is valid. If, and I REPEAT IF, her main intention is to keep HCA out of Broadlands and she is doing so as an employee of Inova then there stands a good chance that she is putting Inova's priorities over ours (I am not stating this as fact).

I would say the same thing about ANY board member if their job/employer was a direct factor in Broadlands affairs.

I am sometimes amazed with great eloquence. I have had the same thoughts watching these last 20 or so posts. I would have trouble articulating it well. I have more of a problem with the other characterizations. I think Mr. T8erman was just being a little sloppy. But the vitriol from other people is far worse. I think it's ok to take into account Donna's employer when she posts but she is very upfront about that. I think it is reasonable to assume that her personal position was that of Inova's long before she was hired by them and long before she was elected to the board.

Accusing someone of a little bias is nothing compared to these character assasinations.

I'm sick of .. the pick on the person who's taking high road by not getting into this swabble. Anyone who had real concerns to address could get them addressed with a simple phone call or meeting at that public place she goes every month with all the other board members.

Show me where the HOA has had ANY SAY AT ALL when it comes to what has happened with this hospital? What in the world could she have possibly influenced with her double-super-secret-probation agenda? The HOA has done a survey and made a statement... that's it.. neither of which are binding to anything. Donna has been quoted in the media plenty before her job or board seat, and she doesn't speak on behalf of the community. Our friend Cliff gets quoted more often on that topic.

It's kind of hard to have a conflict of interest when the HOA has nothing to do with the entire project.

By your logic, you should probably be calling for Stevens Miller to get the boot.. considering his new job has REAL impact on the community. Let's ban Erica too from activities while we are at it... her interests and motives may not coincide with all residents either. :shakehead:
