From my years in the restaurant business and from those of my friends...
Sometimes, the glasses just dont get washed very well. Straws are commonly put in glasses for sanitary measures. Ever seen dried lipstick on a glass before??
Now, I am 100% sure someone is going to disagree with me, as it is the nature of this forum, but...
my rule of thumb is that if it doesn't come with a straw dont worry about it. But if the staff is putting them in there, then maybe they have a reason for doing so.
    Good luck.

from my restaurant experience as well, you are better off getting a straw in a wrapper. You don't want your servers hands touching your straws...trust me. I worked in a restaurant and my hands were always dirty from picking up plates and handling money.

Then again...there are some things you are just better off not thinking about when you go out to eat!!! :D

In my opinion, drinking out of a straw as an adult makes you look really silly...I don't use em.

And sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. In this case, they may just be putting straws in (or offering them) as a convenience.

You don't want a straw, you have the opportunity to tell the wait staff that, or remove it when it comes with the drink.

OK, but they are easy to remove. Better to get them
when the drink is served than to have to ask for them.

Okay...I'll defer on the straw issue. Wow, didn't know it was such a hot item here.

My point wasn't really that I wanted or didn't want a straw. It thought it somehow "cheapened" the atmosphere. It makes me think of McDonalds...sorry, I guess I just have a "thing" with this.

in my opinion the straw "issue" is more of a formal/informal thing... not based on maturity...

Just curious - we received a gift certificate from Bonefish for $45.00 to use at their restaurant....anyone else get one? I can't imagine they sent to all residents of Broadlands, figured it was random draw.

I tried to go their on Saturday called at 7:30 for call ahead seating and was told 2 hours. Arrived at 9:30 and was told it would be an indeterminite period longer, from the crowd there I'm guessing at least another hour.

Has anyone had success with calling ahead?

Someone told me that they don't do call ahead here, they only do reservations, and once those are gone, you wait !!

We are usually very lucky and get seated right away, but we're willing to eat around 5-5:30 !!

I have called them around lunchtime to get a reservation for 7pm and we only waited an extra 10 minutes or so when we got there. Other people that had arrived at the same time as us didn't get seated until after we were done eating. OUCH! We've also been there at 515 and it was immediate seating so that was nice.

I called Friday night (Feb. 4) around 8:30 and was told they don't do call ahead. They said for a party of 2 it would be over an hour. I arrived at 9:00 to sit at the bar and was seated w/in 5 minutes. Not sure why they told me they don't do call ahead. The food/service was great once we were seated.

    what we liked about bonefish:
    -reasonably priced
    -the grouper w/lime,tomato garlic sauce
-dinner includes salad (not the norm like it used to be)

    what we didn't care for:
-the salmon (it was fine but you can get salmon anywhere)
-the bar music they play throughout the restaurant after 9pm

There's a difference between calling ahead and getting on a "first to call, first served" list (as Sweet Water Tavern does), and making a reservation for a set time. They DO take traditional reservations, but you better call early in the day for a Friday or Saturday night.

Some people got them in the mail, two other lucky people won them in a drawing at the last Developers Update meeting.
