Well HCA isn't' exactly know for doing what's best, unless we are talking bout their bottom line.

name one business that DOES do what's best in SPITE of a bottom line. when the bottom line coincides what's best, then both MAY be done. but even businesses that are SUPPOSED to be about caring for ppl put their bottom line first.

Oh, and Inova isn't concerned about theirs?????? Give me a break.
This company is ruthless in doing whatever it takes to maximize their profits.
As I've mentioned, it's been chronicled many times over the years in the local papers.
Show me any multi-billion dollar company that doesn't care about "the bottom line."

Here's my two cents on your response Chal...

First cent: Healthcare is not charity work. As I've said before, I an an ex-hospital adminstrator. This is a business! If there were no money in it, we wouldn't be discussing this at all. And think about this when people around you start to "liberal out" over the cry for universal health insurance and government run healthcare. There will be FAR fewer hospitals taking care of many more patients. And you think you can call any of this anything else but rationing? Why do you think the UK and Japan (and now Canada) have a two tiered system. One the government runs...and one people pay for.

My second cent: Look...I've been around competing with Inova for years. Inova has been flying under the radar. HCA has (as has Tenet, Bon Secours and almost every major health system) been called on the carpet for this kind of behavior. But Inova has been skirting this at the state level because of their influence in Richmond. Well...as you can see...the Feds stepped in. I bet this much is true... those in HCA are laughing their butts off because it's finally come around to Inova.

If you look at the history of American industry, competition is usually paramount. Microsoft, AT&T, etc... have all had and will continue to have issues about illegal non-competitive practices.

All I can say is it's about time Inova got this kind of wedgie. They derserved it. It's been a long time coming. And if my history and experience is sooth-saying...it won't be the last Inova's heard from the FTC, or the FBI, or CMS... They are going to find out just how hard it's going to be getting Certificate of Needs now that they've crossed that line.

    Too bad, so sad.

Look what happened in England this spring. Dentists have filled their "allotted government time" and have been asked to go play golf and not work...so thousands of patients who need dental work cannot find a dentist. What a great system. "But it's free..." HA HA HA

Putting quotas on a need-based industry is just insane. I love this quote, "The health department says dentists should have managed their workload throughout the year."

I haven't followed this issue in a while. From your post, it sounds like the hospital is a done deal. When is construction expected to begin?

You all are making it very hard for me to be a good boy and not comment. But that hospital is one very ugly building kind of like a eight story flex building :devil2: Now if I was going to design a hospital it would look like a resort so people can feel good and heal faster. :)
