Please bring these concerns up to the HOA staff via email. They really don't have the time to read all of these forums, but they do respond to any homeowner concerns via email.

With something in 'writing' we have a paper trail that can be shown to AAA in negotiations over pricing. We definitely want to keep them to the letter of the contract this year and the next.

The lid may have very well blown off before the trash truck came. But, I agree, the usually just leave (or toss) the toters wherever they feel like it, even if it's in the middle of the street.

I think the excuse that it doesn't fit in the garage is a crock! Just my opinion, though! We have absolutely no problem with our AAA toter and we only have a 1 car garage! We started out with a regular trash can but soon learned they tend to fly. So we pay an extra $3.50 a month for the heavy duty AAA toter!

You can trying putting your house number on the lid and the can itself. Makes it easier to find your own!

    Dixie-
Please show me what law says I cannot leave a note in someone's door, in the newspaper slot attached to a mailbox, or wedged between the mailbox and the outgoing mail flag. Or did you not read my post where I addressed your feverous concern about the laws of putting something IN a mailbox??
    I'll restate my previous post:
    Dixie-
Then go with Plan A and actually speak to a neighbor. Or, of course, put the note in the paper slot in your mailbox post, if you have one, or between the box and the outgoing mail flag, or in the front door, or......refer to Plan A!!

    My Goodness vacliff,

I was just going by your direct quote "note left in thier mailbox" You didn't say in the door, under the door in the newspaper slot etc...

I am assuming you are a member of the board and/or highly involved from your postings(maybe not I don't know) and as such I would assume you would want to set the example for the Broadlands Community by following the notices in the newsletter and not making suggestions to homeowners that are in complete contradiction. That is all I was pointing out.

So your last post was the best advice of all, buy a stamp.

    Have a good evening:)

    Dixie ..

you read the post wrong, or read more into it then there was:

    Here's his original post:
Note .. it says the 'paper slot in your mailbox post' ...that's the small box found in the 'north' Broadlands right UNDER the mailbox.

So .. he was NOT recommending putting a slip in the mailbox, but putting something in the newspaper slot underneith.

It really isn't hard to do. If you are worried about confrontation, a polite note left in their mailbox may also work well for your situation.

I did not read it wrong. Above is the copied phrase from his post on 11-29 at 4:39pm.

I missed the first one, he then corrected it after your first reply, with the quote I 'quoted'. But now we're getting off topic.

    The advise is:

    1. Talk to your neighbors.
    2. Leave a note on their door or
    3. Leave a note in their 'paper' recepticle

I throw everthing away that in in my 'paper' recepticle on a weekly basis. I don't even bother looking at the stuff cause it's all snail spam. I'd just leave a note on the door :)

I actually put any notes, cards, etc that I need to leave at a neighbor's IN the mailbox. Yes it's against the law, yes I know it's against the law, but I do it anyway.
Dixie- sick the Postmaster on me!! You can use this post as evidence!! :)

Nice to know that a Board Member feels that he/she is "above" the rules and laws that we, the homeowners must abide by. Maybe the big article in Novembers Broadlands newsletter should be retracted or better yet...a disclaimer..."this rule applies to everyone in Broadlands but vacliff because he is so special"

Dixie - who said you had to abide by anything? To me, it is just like speeding. you do it knowing that you could get a ticket.

Unless you do not speed of course (but EVERYBODY speeds at some point or another).

    Dixie-
You have twice now displayed an inability to read a complete post. I will once again point out that I clearly stated what I was speaking as an individual, not a Board member.
As a Board member, I will now point out that there are no HOA rules preventing anyone from putting anything in any mailbox. It's a federal law.
I'm also sorry that you couldn't tell by my last post (I would have thought the last sentence gave it away) that I'm having a little fun here.
Oh, and finally, yes.....I am special!

    Hi Neil!

I am happy to have this shifted to a new forum/subject so not to get blasted but I'm here in Pakistan now pretty much permanently. I accepted a position with a US based corporation as its Country Director, Pakistan and setting up/establishing the company here. However I do miss Broadlands and can't resist checking into the forums.

Would love to hear from residents and hope the area does not get too much snow today from what I've been reading in the news! FWIW, it is sunny and clear here in Islamabad and about 65 degrees. [8D]

And fortunately, trash is collected daily at each individual home rather than having to worry about putting out cans on the street...there...that keeps me on topic! :D

    Regards,
    Carol

I am relatively new to this community. I was surprised to hear the BS about trash cans when I called HOA to get one. My lane looks like a dumpster on tuesdays and fridays with all loose trash infront of houses. How come our HOA is not doing anything about it?..:(

May I ask .. exactly what "BS" you're referring to ?? The fact that townhouses don't receive toters? This is because many townhouses do not have the means to keep the toters stored out of sight, as required by the covenants.

Are you in a townhouse ?? If there is trash in the streets on Tuesday, are you notifying the HOA office ?? If they don't know about it, and the location, there's not much they can do about it now, can they ??

We only have two full time employees, and they do not have the time to patrol the streets. HOA member, that's you the homeowner, must take some responsiblity to inform the staff that there's an issue.

If you have specific addresses that are causing problems, pass that on to the staff, and they can verify the 'noncompliance of covenants' with a picture and then we can send a notification letter to the owner.

    Thanks.

I gotta say, that for a community to require its residents to "hide" their trashcan without the builder providing space to do so is poor planing. What are the people in Townhomes supposed to do with their trash between trash days. Should they just let it pile up in the living room until they can take it out? I think the requirement should be changed to something more realistic " removed from the street and properly stored in a discrete, consistent location". I know several houses that the garages are so small they have the choice, put the car in the garage, or the “toter”, not both. It also seems unfair that part of the community be given "toters" while the other isn't. Seems a little class oriented to me.
