Towels are the problem because you re-wet them and that water air dries bringing out the smell. I assume you use a dryer after washing... that's a rapid drying process that doesn't allow the organics to react.

I'm curious why the other parts of Ashburn are not experiencing this problem. Don't we all use the same water supply?

    Samantha,

Thanks for the help. I live in Broadlands North and had noticed a smell only in the MBR sink and nowhere else. I will pour chlorine down it to see if that worked.

    thanks again,

    Shyam

Good luck with the water department. I noticed this smell the first year we moved here from Chantilly (four years ago). Towels smelled disgusting after only two days of use...nothing smells fresh. Water has intermittent odor when we first turn it on when showering. All they did first was send us some useless pamphlet with scientific breakdown of the water, etc. Huh? So I still wasn't satisfied and put in an order for someone to check it. Someone did, and again, got a "everything's normal" letter, and another glossy publication about the water. Useless....

We never had this problem when we lived 4 miles down the road in Ashburn Farm. Ever since we moved here (3 years ago) the water stinks (literally). Loudoun Water came out and flushed the hydrant on our court, but it still smells. As chattycat said, useless.

OK, so that was March. It's now September. What's up? And it's not localized. It's in our showers AND the washing machine water source. And I WISH I smelled chlorine. That would be a sensory treat! You may not think it's a health issue, but my gag reflex disagrees with you...getting sick at the smell of something is NOT good for your health.

That quote was posted in September. The first post in this thread was late August. The water issue is a problem, but LCSA customer support seems very responsive.

Regardless, I was dealing with this matter, and the water company, years ago...they just need to admit they don't know what the hell they're doing or what's causing it. And pouring bleach down a drain doesn't help...it's coming FROM the water source, ground or pipes, not when it's going DOWN the drain. I can't very well pour bleach DOWN a showerhead...

The "fishy" nasty disgusting smell in the wet towels cannot be blamed on "recent rains"... that's absurd. This problem has been going on since June nonstop for months now. Something's wrong with the water, what's it going to take before something's done about it?? Do we need to get the network news channels out here to report on it?? ;-)

That's what I was thinking. This smell has been going on for months and there's no way it's due to the recent rains.

And, yes, we still have the problem.

Do all of you who are experiencing this problem live in the same model of home or in the same neighborhood? It doesn't sound like it's widespread...

Call Erin Brockovich. She will figure out who/what is contaminating the water.

Seriously though, it does smell bad and we may not know the side effects for 20 years of exposure.

Does anyone notice the smell in the drinking water that is filtered by the fridge?

I've always noticed that our ice smelled bad (and confirmed by one visitor who proclaimed "Your ice tastes like $#!"), but I had thought it was just something wrong with the fridge. We've replaced filters without any luck. Perhaps it's this water issue....

our ice is fine, the sink in my son's bathroom is nasty smelling, even after pouring bleach down it. if i run the water in the master bath sink a minute or so, the smell dissipates. our shower in the master bath smells fine.

the towels- i am going to buy new ones and wash them to see if it's the water's or MY fault.

Haven't noticed it in the fridge water. Only bathroom water and the smell goes away after a few seconds. The MBR shower smells mildewy, but again, the smell goes away after a few seconds. We are in Southern Walk.
