Because I didn't feel like describing each individual movement of the interchange. It's easier to say "it works like a normal interchange except for one piece".....

Well ... there won't be a stoplight there any longer so one less stop and backup on Rt 7, until you hit Belmont Ridge that is.

The problem with the final leg of the interchange was that until they got Ashburn Road closed to southbound traffic coming off Rt 7, they couldn't finish the east on-ramp from Claiborne as the design brings it right across Ashburn Road and the old parking lot for the former gas station/truck bed topper store that was there.

The temporary access will have a merge lane coming off Ashburn Road onto 7 east. When the on-ramp is finished, then Ashburn Road will be dead-ended just after the driveway for the IT company there. (name just escapes me right now).

OK I pulled a Neil. I just drove all the way to rt 7 on the new Loudoun County Parkway. Just Like Neil I sped around the barriers and shot off to rt 7.

Looks like this road could open any day now. The signs are up and the speed limit is 45mph although on that section 70mph would not be too fast or unsafe.

Most of the lanes are now striped and this road almost looks good to go.

Maybe next week if we are lucky. Think of it one light between bramelton and rt 7. I will say this will become the dragsrtip of choice when open no doubt about it.

What a difference having that light gone at ashburn rd and 7 also.

A dragstrip is a big concern. Ashburn Farm has already been speaking with local law enforcement. Thankfully we are expecting a lot of extra "attention".

Folks are going to get nabbed (or confused), as the speed goes from 45 to 40 (through the Farm) and then back to 45 in Broadlands.

The extra traffic light will help.

(p.s. we did ask the police about "barrier jumpers", they reported seeing something that looked like a car, but turned out it wasn't, said it was too small to be called a real vehicle. Neilz is obviously under the radar of a lot of things.) :)

LCP the new section with no lights or development is going to be all joking aside a real problem for the police. There is so much asphalt there you could land a 747 on it. It is a pretty good distance between redskin park and rt7. You are going to have to have the police patroling there especially at night constantly.

    Doubt that will happen.

As far as barrier jumping I am a construction guy with a gas guzzling suv not some nosey homeowner on the hoa in a mini who is getting away from us soon. ha ha ha I wonder if Neil will be like Brim and pats fan and others who have moved away but can't leave these boards. ha ha ha Hell we are going to miss this guy and I have never even met him or anyone else here except your future rock star.

Why would you lower the speed limit thru the farms?????

Don't have to. It's been 40 MPH all along. It's 40 on Ashburn Farm Parkway and Claiborne through the Farm. Broadlands should request a change, just my opinion.

I hate to further hijack the thread, but what is the process and rationale for such a move?

The easterner today said toll brothers is extending LCP 1.8 miles right now but the last .8 miles won't be done until 2010 Hmmmmmmmmmmmm why not connect it now .8 miles of road is a drop in the bucket to the toll brothers. Ahhhh it can't be that money, it's got to be the money they will lose on the hundreds of homes they have yet to build over the next 4 years if LCP becomes a busy noisy road up against their future homes. A big dead end blvd looks so much more pleasing doesn't it when you have hundreds of homes to build yet.
Not to worry that road is not going to hurt sales as much as the new runway finished in 2008. And existing owners I see filing a massive class action lawsuits soon against the developers the county and the airport for allowing homes such as these within 7 miles of the airport. Wait to the 5th runway gets built and southriding and surrounding subdivisions over there start getting the noise and that runway will get a lot of use when the second main terminal is built with an entrance off rt 50 many of you probably don't know about that future main terminal and 5th runway. The airport has warned this county from day one not to build suburban type homes within 7 miles of it yet they do it anyway and are going to approve more. This loudoun board needs to go if they approve this.

Of course when the developers get sued they will sue the county and airport for allowing them to build all those homes within 7 miles of the airport and then we pay as taxpayers when the county has to pay to the developers for letting them build so close to the airport. This nightmare can become real in a few years. OH well I guess I will just be drinking beer with my new pal T8erman on the porch and just forget about it all. Right new buddy????? ha ha

The process is to request the support of our local Supervisor, and to then request the speed limit change to 40 (and the extra fines too) from VDOT.

The reasons for the speed reduction is to equal what the farm has on its stretch of Claiborne, the additional fine has a number of reasons ... one is all the people doing 50-55 on a 45 MPH stretch of road through a residential neighborhood with kids on the paths alongside the road. The other, we've had requests for this type of enforcement from all over Broadlands.

Just got caught cutting through on Claiborne by my buddy with Toll Brothers he said he would let me through this time. ha ha ha He had some interesting facts about that section and why it took so long to build I will say more on that in an later post.

Anyway he and all the officials are going to have an official opening ceremony in a few hours should be open officially to the public by the evening commute. He told me not to tell anyone, but what the hell we are all friends here. ha ha

Thanks for the information about LCP. However, I am still questioning the intersections of Ashburn Village Blvd. and Waxpool Rd. The intersection past where there is Ryan Road. You turn right across from Ashburn Village Blvd. to go to Ashburn's Home Depot. It is a four way stop and uncontrolled intersection. Will this intersection connect? It is on the corner where Broadlands Community Church is building their new building.

    Thanks.

Eventually ... Toll's got to open their side of the road, then Van Metre has to begin on the Broadlands Blvd connection to bypass that bit of Shellhorn.
