I heard from a friend that Gold's Gym is planning to open a Broadlands location. Does anyone know anything about this or if it's even remotely accurate?

I know they have been trying to do this for years but their big problem has been that no one was willing to sell them the land only to lease it. Last I had heard they were trying to see if there was anywhere else in the area that they could purchase. This info is from a few years ago, but they were trying to include a pool with the new location thus the reason for wanting to purchase.
I really hope they are still considering it.

I was a member of that one for a while until I just went the home gym route. The info I heard was through a coworker who just signed up with a Gold's rep. My company (in Herndon) recently partnered with Gold's gym giving relatively good rates at the Clock Tower Gold's. The rep claimed the membership also allows use of the Ashburn, Sterling, and Leesburg Gold's at no extra charge and stated that they had been planning one between Brambleton/South Riding but had abandoned that plan and are now seeking to build in Broadlands, hence my original post.

Herndon, Clocktown, Ashburn, and Leesburg are all owned by the same guy but depending on your promo you can't use all of the locations for free (tho you can by paying extra). Outside of 50miles, Golds allows you to use other locations a set # of times a year.

For instance, I can use Herndon and Ashburn, but not the others. But that will all vary based on your promo when you join.

I used to be a member of the one off Rt.7. When I was there (well over a year ago) this is what I heard. The owner wanted to buy the land rather than lease it b/c he knew it would be worth more, but Broadlands wasn't/isn't selling only leasing. I believe he was interested in the land that is now Fitness First. Again, this is what I heard almost 18 months ago so take it with a grain of salt.

Yes I had similar when I was a member at Ashburn. What I was referring to in my post only applies to the specific corporate membership deal that was arranged with my company for it's employees. I am sure they have all sorts of variations depending on what is worked between respective companies/members/current promos.

So, are they opening a Gold's Gym near Verizon? by the Waxpool/ Ashburn Farm intersection? I think the banner says December 2010....

    lifetime isn't cheap - and isn't close
S&H is easier to get to them lifetime, but not nearly as close as the gold's location
fitness first is probably the closest parallel but having pools and possible other differentiators will keep them from all being equals

I agree, and having another gym is clearly better for our health than having more Chinese food restaurants.

ha! i know something is better than nothing, but they ALL can't POSSIBLY survive, so someone will fail and it'll be empty again in a few years.

but why not something we DON'T already have? a dave and busters, or a skydiving simulator, or an indoor teen center with rock climbing walls, x games style ramps, a deejay and dance floor, air hockey and foosball, ... SOMETHING besides SOMETHING we already have.

the repetition around here BORES me. :indiff2:

ps- i am almost kidding about the sky diving sim.... almost. ;)

one the next biz should be an Ashburn shuttle- $5 round trio anywhere within Ashburn! i could see that THRIVING for adults as well running a route between Parallel, Clydes and Ashburn Pub...

and two- whatever entrepreneur or big biz who is willing to take on the liability of entertaining hundred of suburban teens...

aaaahhh, the bane of my existence- I am all ideas and no capital. :rolleyes3:

The kids don't need anything more to do, they just need (better) parenting. They live in one of the richest counties in the US, boo-hoo.

i don't think that's true- my kid is coming up on being a teen and i would love it if there was another place that he could go and be social. they DO have several options already- the ice house, movies, each other's homes- but I'd be happy to see another option for THEM, then repeated bizzes that will eventually fail.

i agree on better parenting, especially as it relates to the jackholes who vandalized my house last night. :censored: but the good kids could use a place to gather...

I remember when in my early 20's, Mclean took the old city Firehouse and turned it into a teen center.
