Does anyone know how much the trees at lots, like the one near Safeway, run? We've cut ours down ourselves for the past few years and I'm curious about the price difference.

    Thanks!

Bought mine for less than 40 bucks....it was already cut and the tree looked awesome. No gaps within the tree...very well rounded. Happy with the size as well...Its a 8 footer...so am content with it.

I haven't bought a tree myself in about 10 years as I usually travel to family members' houses for xmas, but I recall them being between $40 and $75 back then depending on size and species.

Sounds about right...but I did go to a farm near Broadlands and was given the STICKER SHOCK...99 bucks for a 8 foot tree??!? That was one crazed farmer right there. Needlessly to say, we left right away.

I believe the ones at Home Depot are under $40.

Here's some info on the local farms that sell cut your own (and some pre-cut) trees.

Wow - that's a big difference. We pay in the $90 range at Snickers Gap Tree farm.

we usually go to Pruitts Tree Farm because we love the experience of cutting it down, the volunteer fire dept assists The Boy with carrying it and netting it, then drinking hot cocoa and chatting with the owners of the tree farm...

i don't even know how much we pay for the tree... it's under $100 but the whole day is what I love.

unfortunately THIS year both boys want to buy a fake pre-lit tree. :( oh well.

Yeah, it's the total experience that we like, not the price. The spouse and I both grew up with artificial trees so the whole cutting your own tree thing is a novelty and fun. I see an artificial, pre-lit one in our future sometime, though.

We usually go to Day Star Farm and pay between $40-$60 depending on the type of tree we choose.

I think they're one of the priciest ones around here.

I've done the tree-cutting part for some time and now buying a pre-cut tree this year due to my daughter wanting a tree NOW not later and I don't have MUCH time right now to stomp through the tree farm to look for the PERFECT tree. So I went to Costco and got a good sized tree for a good price (Less than 40 bucks for a 8-foot tree). The tree was perfect and had no broken branches and no ugly gaps between branches. Its all good and ready to go...

Next year, we'll probably splurge and buy a Fake tree because we don't want to spend, spend, spend each year. That's money we could use for other things and then we have to throw out the cut tree out each year. We just put it in storage and be done with it for the following year each year. Simple enough. We have enough Christmas activities that includes hot cocoa outdoors anyway. :)

After many years buying a real tree, we bought a nice pre-lit fake one last year from home depot (cost around $170 I think, maybe a bit less). We absolutely have NO regrets!

We liked the smell of the real tree, but that's about it. The fake trees made now closely resemble the real thing...you need to look carefully to notice it's fake!

No more..."how are we going to fit this thing into the car?," "who's going to water it while we're away?," "did the baby just eat some of the needles?," "I can't untangle these lights!," etc.

We can have it out for as long as want and don't need to find time or $$$ each year to get a real one. I never thought we'd go the "fake" route but it is better than we imagined!

    Just my $0.02.

Someone was telling me that the pre-lit ones are a pain because you have to take them apart (duh), fold them just so and what happens if one light goes out?

I'd never heard of a downside to a pre-lit one so if anyone wants to tell me about it, I'd be happy to hear. One of these years we'll get one.

We haven't had a bulb go out, but there are replacement bulbs that came with it.

Assembling and disassembling the tree are incredibly easy.

I just received an email from Meadows Farms for 10% off a Fresh Cut Christmas Tree. If anyone wants it, I am happy to forward it.

we've had a prelit fake tree for 6 xmas's (countinthis year) This will most likely be the last year of the lights working. Ours was a 9 footer from Costco's Expo Design center. Got it for $300 back then on sale as it was a floor model. has nice white tips, and pine cones. The box it came in didn't last, so we got tree bags for it from Frontgate.

When the boys put it together this year, half of the lights didn't work. Koas spent ALL day trying to fix that. then part of the next,m until he bagged it and bought a few white strands to add to the tree. While he was doing that, I calculated that after 5 months of use (well actaully it's alwasy on from morning until we go to bed from the day after Turkey to New years Eve) we've used up 2700 hours of the 3000, so most likely, nothing will light up next year.

So we will recycle it and get new ones from FG after xmas when they go on sale. They now have these:http://www.frontgate.com/jump.jsp?itemID=7767&itemType=CATEGORY&path=1,2,556,2922,7767
which come with a flip top! Easy as pie as with the lower 2/3 of the tree, you don't have to arrange it each year. My question to them will be, so what do we do with your trees when the 3000 light days go out.

All in all, we've paid for 6 years of having the fake vs real. Last tall fraser fir we bought (2004) off a lot was $95.

Yes we have:) Good quality stuff. We shop through United's Mileage Plus Mall, for purchasing - as you get miles for the actual net price of what you buy. The vendor decides the miles, which can be as low as 1.75 miles per dollar, to 11-14 miles per dollar. Just as with their dining miles, it puts the miles expiration date out farther, if you don't have any fllights coming up.

You just lose the nice, Christmasy pine tree smell. I miss it, but not enough to not use our fake tree.
