Well, now its legal to turn from the center lane of northbound LCP onto the center lane of eastboud Waxpool. I noticed this week that signage, pavement arrows, and signalization had been changed to legalize two lanes of traffic turning onto Waxpool from LCP. Though I'm glad this change has been made, it seems to have made it more difficult for northbound LCP traffic. The backup on northbound LCP with Greedway bail out, school traffic is now down to the front of Verizon. It typically takes 3-4 light cycles to get through the Waxpool intersection.

The problem still remains that there is only 3 ways to cross East-West from Rt28 to Ashburn; Rt 7, Waxpool, and Greedway. Thats a total of only 9 lanes to move all east to west rush hour traffic. That doesnt include Rt 50 but thats not an option unless you work in Chantilly or Central Fairfax. Whats really needed is another arterial south of Waxpool (other than Greedway which is backing up to Ryan road regularly). Ideally connecting Shellhorn (which will soon be 4 lanes) at LCP to somewhere near Postal facility south of AOL. Perhaps connecting to the new overpass at Sterling Pkwy and 28.

Well, it may seem like a good thing but I can tell you, the traffic from Claiborne to LCP has increased substantially. It's hard to tell if it is from the lane adjustment or schools in.

I strongly disagree with your comment that "the roads ARE getting better". For me and everyone else heading on to 28 from Caliborne it's a nightmare. The back up begins just east of Ashburn Road. Before the change the back up started just past Ashburn Village Blvd.

It takes me longer to get from Ashburn Road to 28, than it does to get from 28/Waxpool to Route 50.

well getting better doesn't mean GOOD- yes it still stinks but at least progress is being made, no matter how slow... it's a step in the right direction imho.

my glass is half full. :)

with schools in.. the traffic is 50% worse.. its always this way every year.

The greenway has been backed up PAST ashburn almost every day this week.

Its taken me 45mins+ to get to Reston every day this week. 45mins for 12 miles.. isn't this grand?

And even more fun.. chatting at the office today we were all commenting how every state around us (during our recent travels) all has cheaper gas then we do. Yet.. the state can't afford roads.. hrmmmmmmmmmmmmm

This brings us a very good point and sorry for taking this off topic.

We no longer fill up in Ashburn, instead we are filling up in Arlington (Exxon) Reg 2.19 or Leesburg $2.29...not sure why the stations in Ashburn/Broadlands/Brambleton are soooo -high other than they figure they can get away with it due to the demographic household income in the area.

redon you're certainly entitled to your opinion but I wouldn't consider an additional turn lane on existing blacktop to be a "step in the right" direction, or an improvement to a deplorable situation. Just my opinion.

I take the Greenway, but leave home at ~7 AM and have seen it heavier but virtually no back up at the main plaza.

Question: Is the backup caused by a wait at the booths or is it caused by the volume of traffic being pinched down to two lanes after the toll?

I have always wondered why there are only two lanes on that transition section between the Dulles Tollroad and the Greenway. Who owns that section? VDOT or Greenway?

In any case, if TRIP II wants to make a capacity improvement that benefits all of its customers, that is the place to invest. I don't understand the logic of a huge pipe at the plaza emptying in to a straw. Even if the transition is owned by VDOT, I can't imagine that they would protest TRIP II making an investment to increase the capacity.

It's my understanding that VDOT owns the 2-lane piece between the toll plaza and the main toll road. I sat thru waxpool/28 this week and compared notes with my co-worker who drives the greenway. I left at 7:50 and got onto the toll road at 8:15, while he left his daycare near the greenway/ashburn exit at 7:40, and got to the toll road around 8:15 as well. Where's the "time-savings" that the greenway touts? My guess is they only measure time from their toll plaza, thus making the road seem quicker than it really is, since it takes you 10-20 minutes to get on the Toll road from the Greenway's toll plaza.

That is an excellent point. You should send it in as a comment to the SCC as a rebuttal to the Greenway's claim of time savings and value for the money.

Let the police police the traffic not you. Not only is it illegal but dangerous.
